Last night I noticed that Tweetie Pie was holding his left foot up. I didn't hear him squeal or cry out if he hurt it and there was no blood. This morning it looks swollen compared to the other one. He doesn't tolerate being handled and we are just getting to the point where he'll come to me so I'd hate to ruin that by grabbing him. What do you think - should I wait and observe or is this one of those things that you take them to the vet ASAP? Or am I just being paranoid? Marianne Marlow Hezz criswell anybody?

It doesn't look too bad to me. I can't say theres a difference between the two feet. Sometimes budgies do tend to sleep with one leg tucked into their feathers. I think it's a comfortable position for them. Maybe visually check to foot over the next couple of days but I don't think it will come to be any problem

Thanks! He was holding it up last night but it wasn't tucked up in his feathers and so it caught my attention. He has been putting his weight on it - he stood on it while using his right foot to stretch out his wing (what I call doing birdie yoga).

Lol. yeah if he can stand on it OK then it must be alright. One of my little ones got his foot caught in between the metal of the cage roof earlier today. The metal has gone out of shape somehow he made out a terrible cry but I was right there to help. I hope your little one will be ok

Thanks again! I get so much joy out of my two little guys so I worry about anything out of the ordinary. Hope your guy's foot is OK.

It doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about - if he will put his whole weight on it and stretched using that foot, it can't be too bad. Had you never seen him standing on one leg before, or just not with the foot extended? Just watch to see how he gets around, but I think you may be being a little paranoid.

Thanks Hezz, he seems to be OK today and using his foot like normal. No, I have not seem him stand with the foot pulled up a bit. Usually he tucks it all the way up into his feathers. Sometimes my feet get hot so maybe his foot was hot too!
