Bald patch and cut on budgie’s head - advice please

I have had budgies for most of my life and Dougie has been with me for 8 years. I’ve never seen anything like this before, but 2 weeks ago I noticed this cut on his head and a bald patch. It wasn’t bleeding but looked like it had been, and seemed to be healing up but today it looks as bad again.

I am concerned that it’s not healing up or could be a sign of something that requires treatment?

He also seems to be scratching a lot in general, more so than usual.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It does look a bit crusty in there on the skin. Have you tried to clean the wound at all, and will that come off? I would try cleaning him up and if that crusty stuff comes off, pop a bit of Savlon onto it to help with healing and irritation. It is bird-safe, if he manages to reach there to preen.
