Vids:
I am referring to the way my bird sits very low and flat on the perch, while sometimes flapping her wings and chirping. We first started noticing her doing this several months ago, but she seems to be doing it more often recently, and spends a large part of her day, mostly the morning/noon, doing it over and over. As far as I can tell, the movement is voluntary. My initial thought is that she may be straining to lay an egg (or egg binding), and she has been mating with a male recently, but this behavior started before that, and she is still pooping, and isn't brooding.
What do you think? Sign of distress? Or completely benign?
Other information:
-female -almost 2 years old -eating, drinking, flying, pooping and preening as normal -no known health problems

What she is doing is not egg-related. What is on the floor of the aviary, or lower down? It looks like mere curiosity or that she wants to go down to the floor or lower down in the aviary. She is constantly looking down, seemingly looking for, or at, something, and wanting to fly down to it. How big is their enclosure?

They are in an outdoor walk-in aviary. It's roughly 4 feet x 6 feet x 6 feet (length x width x height). They only spend the summer in it. Most of the year they are indoors in a smaller cage, where I have also seen this same bird do the same behavior.

I would ask what she is looking at when she does it?
I have had birds do a "jealous wing ruffle/flap" Is she watching another pair of budgies play when she does it?

It does seem to happen during periods of excitement, so that could be what is going on.

A budgie that can't exercise properly - get out for a good fly around - will often flip their wings. She certainly is interested in whatever it is that lower down, whether it be other birds or something she wants to get to.
