That's really bad about the Savic, Marianne.
Go Peter and his bravery though!

Such a shame about the Savic 50 cage! No one likes spending money and time on something that doesn't last. Peter is turning out to be such a brave little character!

What a shame. I hope the Hagen vision cages last forever though! They are very nice - at least the model that you have looks well designed. I love the clear plastic guard built into the bottom!

Well, the cage that we got only 5 months ago needed to be replaced. The hens stripped the blue paint off the bars and it had started to rust. So we have had to set up the hagen vision that we bought to replace the other hagen vision in it's place. We'll have to buy yet another hagen vision. Note to all, don't buy a savic 50 if you have hens or birds that will strip paint off of the bars. Peter was the first budgie to go in. After all of the others flying round it and being scared of it. He just strolled in and made himself at home When it was first set upPeter in his fortress of solitudeI had a Savic when I had Bailey. It went rusty in 2 places. I wrote to them, sent photos. They replaced it

Morgan The hagen visions are great, I have had two previously, which I had for 10 years each, I replaced one with the savic. The new vision that I have now had to replace the savic with was meant to replace the other hagen I have. They now cost £80-120, depending on where you get them, although my originals were only £40 each!! ffiscool The hens stripped the paint off of almost the entire front of the cage, I could see the rust starting. Even if they had replaced it for free, the same would have happened all over again.

That the biggest problem with painted cages. I’ve been very lucky in that Mango has never shown any interest in attacking the paint, thank heavens. Plenty of other things, but not the paint on the cage, possibly because her early life was spent in the large powder-coated one that is now Loki’s.
At least you can still get a Haven Vision, Marianne. I hate when you find a good product and then they take it off the market.

Marianne Marlow Has anyone dared to join Peter in his new palace? How annoying the savic didn't stand up to the job. We love the vision cage. Barney likes sitting on the floor and looking out of the clear plastic, which I appreciate is a bit odd. He gets very animated chatting and bashing at his friend outside. Poor little man. Would have been lovely for him to have a real friend.

I had the same trouble with the old cage I had.. It had caught rust at many places. The paint easily came off with a cutter! 🙄 Obviously, budgie beaks would chip off the paint easily!!! Finally, I cleaned it up and found a powder coating service in my area. Got it powder coated and it looks good now. The charges were just ₹ 300, which is very cheap and I got it back within 3 hours..
So, I have a spare medium sized cage. The travel cage would be too small for them to stay at my mom's place for almost two to three weeks, while I'm busy with the wedding and relocation.. They are so used to a bigger cage..I think they will be frustrated in the travel cage for long, so the old cage would be okay to place at my mom's home..

mona That's good that you were able to get your cage powder coated. I had no idea that this could be done! They're all enjoying the new cage now that they realise it's not going to eat them

They're all enjoying the new cage now that they realise it's not going to eat them You can buy powder coating spray paint at an automotive store out here. But then you need a kiln big enough to fit the entire cage to bake it and harden the paint. 😅 If you had access to a kiln or could build one the paint itself is only like $20 a can if I remember correctly.
