It looks very inviting Marianne Marlow , and will become even more so I'm sure. I went into Pets at Home and lo and behold, a returned Hagen Vision Large cage that had been ordered for a customer who no longer wanted it and it was on the shelf for £80. Sooo, I bought it, and here's where I am right now .. BertieB is now ignoring them both and sitting on a a swing hanging from the ceiling. He's happily chattering away though.
The good thing is if I decide at some point to get him a friend I have a cage big enough and one for quarantine.

That looks great. Oooh, now you have the cage, you'll have that thought about another budgie friend going round in your head.
What is the other cage he has?

It's a Yaheetech that I got and set up before I got him, and before reading here. Now I know it's better for cages to be long rather than high. I have got the budgie bug now Marianne Marlow, but BertieB and I have bonded so well I'm reluctant to change that, but then I think I'm being selfish and he should have one of his own species to interact with.

Oh yes sorry, I think you already mentioned that, silly me.
I did see that cage when looking for a new one.
It's really up to your own judgement if you want to get BertieB a friend. Some budgies do well with just their Human to interact with, it depends on the bond and how much time you have really.

I'll see how it goes. He in his regular cage now. I'll give it a week I think, and put some of his favourite toys in and on his new cage, then some millet. I'll put his boring toys in the old cage lol.
It's not ready yet anyway, I've got some branches coming for the inside. I'm not sure whether to also leave those plastic things in as well. They're an interesting shape, he might like to play with them and they'll be good to hang things from.

With the plastic perches, I used to use them on the cage top (stuck it through the roof) to put herbs through, such as Basil and Dill. I did use them as perches for a while until I found people on forums that said that they aren't good for their feet. The seed pots are a bit rubbish at the bottom too. I used to bluetack them to a tile on the roof

Clockwise from the grey budgie at the top: Roswell, Jerry, Monty, Lilek, Blueboy, Snowy and Sky.
All dearly departed.

That's a good idea. BertieB is used to eating from the bottom of the cage - that's where his bowls are is his present cage.
And I do love that picture. It looks like a budgie clock Edit : Aww, sad they're gone now, but a lovely picture to remember them by.

Update: BertieB has been on his new cage, playing with toys but he hasn't been in it yet. I'm going to get some fresh millet today, cuttle and mineral block today. I meant to get some yesterday but I was so excited about the cage I completely forget everything else

My guys and girls have not been in their new cage yet. I put dill inside but they ignored it, so I transferred it to another cage for them to eat.
Wimps!

Oh my goodness, he's in!!! He couldn't resist the millet, then couldn't resist trying out the new perches, then he spotted his favourite swing which didn't fit in his other cage. He promptly jumped on and fell asleep. I have hidden his old cage behind the chair for now. Do you think I should offer him his old, familiar cage to sleep in tonight or do you think he'll be okay?

What a brave boy.
Why not see which he chooses to sleep in tonight?
