Hi are my budgies both spangles. I've been trying to learn the different types and colours but I just give myself headache. I thought my boy ( sweetcorn) was a light green spangle) And I'm not sure if my girl ( popcorn) is grey or a blue spangle or not So I thought I'd as someone who might know I'm probably totally wrong but I think she's grey. Both are beauties to me

Yes, both birds are spangles. I'm fairly sure your male is also an opaline clearwing (normal green). Your hen, I'm not so sure of. The opaline does dilute the body colour somewhat, but whether to the extent showing in this girl, I don't know. yellowfacedviolet, thoughts?

The hen...hmmm...something of a puzzlement and for the reason you cite, the dilution of body color. Opaline would only dilute about 10% and this is a lighter, unique shade of grey. (And quite attractive.)
What if she's not opaline but rather the lightening of the head and neck barring and spangle tracing is due to the greywing mutation? Greywing dilutes body color by upwards of 50%, so that would also explain the light grey body.
SO, could she be a grey greywing spangle?

Thanks so much to both of you. I'm pleased with what you both said about my boy it confirms what I suspected and it means I'm getting a tad better at this. My girl still confuses me. She was so much paler when we first got her and her colours were unusual then

Do you happen to know the colors of the parents for the male? I ask because that will inform what color double factor spangles your chicks will be. Your hen is grey but masking blue. Blue is recessive to green, so unless the male is split to blue (carrying a recessive blue gene from one of his parents) the chicks will all be yellow double factor spangles. If he is split to blue, you could have some white double factor spangles.
Regarding your hen darkening with age, that's typical for most mutations as they successively moult.
Given what you say, though, I'm tempted to restore opaline to her mutations. I initially thought opaline plus greywing would make her body color too light a grey, but given what you say, maybe not.

Her cheek patches fit with her being greywing, I think.

I can't wait to see what colours chicks will be. I have 2 hatched so far one of them was today I will know by Sunday if the other 2 are not good

Well bub is obviously going to have a yellow head; I wonder if your cock might not be a yellow face. His head is definitely a deeper yellow than the rest of his body, looking at him again. The rest of bub does seem to be a blue/grey like mum. I'm a bit out of my depth with bub so young. I'll be very interested to see what colours emerge as the new feathers grow in.

Do any of the other chicks show yellow on the head? That would determine what the possibilities are here.
If not all of them do, then your male is a single factor yellowface, either type 1 or 2.
If they all show yellow on the face then either your male is double factor yellowface type 1 or 2 OR your hen is double factor yellow face type 1. DF type ones do NOT have a yellow face. Odd, I know, but that's the way this mutation manifests.
One thing we do know now, if the body color of this chick is indeed blue, your male is split to blue.

I can't offer anything concerning the mutations but I just had to say the baby is soooo cute - its going to be a little beauty!

Hi all Unfortunately out of the 4 eggs 2 hatched but 1 died so just 1 chick so can't compare colours. I can't wait for feathers to come through but I'm going to have to be patient. One question though does yellow face just effect the head colour or can it effect the body? Sorry if this is a silly question. I think he's cute too. I'm definitely keeping as it's my first ever bubba
