Thanks, all. š¤ Hezz, I donāt think heāll be out again. Iāve seen him apparently having to use his wings to balance himself on his perch in the small cage a few times. This is the first time Iāve seen him having to do this. ā¹ļø Having him out to put the iodine on this evening was a chance to see the lump properly and it is big. It must have grown quickly. So I donāt think weāre looking at a long time. Tony is a concern. Heās never been alone except in quarantine and I can see that heās disconcerted. He seemed to be quite agitated at bedtime this evening, looking for Charlie even though he also knew where he was, having been sitting on top of his cage. I have been thinking for ages about how to handle this situation. I certainly didnāt want to introduce a new budgie whilst C and T were such a great pair but I donāt want T to be by himself for any length of time (although pandemic means I am at home most of the time). Anyway, Iāve emailed Tonyās breeder To see if he has any young males available. There arenāt any single budgies needing rehoming on the Scottish SPCA website just now. Iām scared to look at Gumtree...

:-( It is a hard one isnt it.. I think though for Tony, what you are doing is a good idea and you are covering all bases etc, it helps when you are 'taking control', if you know what I mean

I feel for you birdguhl, I was in a similar position last year after Max took ill and sadly passed away. Ben was bereft, and I had to end up getting Sam. Thinking of you all xxx

When Hector found it hard to get around, I had him in a cage (large hagen vision) with lots of rope perches and platforms. Underneath the newspaper was padded with a folded towel, so that when he inevitably fell to the floor (frequently) he didn't hurt himself.
He found the cage much easier to navigate.
Hector had a lame leg as well as a lump and not being able to fly. I knew that if I took him to a vet in later years that they would have put him to sleep, but he was still happy, eating, feeding and singing until a few weeks before he passed away.

My dog was 14 when he passed in December .. and I was so broken up I completely changed species on my pet preference. Aw man this is making me sad to think about Cypress and Citrine getting old too. I'm so sorry

Thanks, guys. Well, Charlie had an okay day yesterday really. He was reasonably lively within his little interim cage, and he ate well. Tony spent a lot of time on the top or side of the cage.
I've mostly got his original cage equipped for more movement and interest, but I just have to position some items to make sure Tony can't poop into his food dishes!
I have been putting his iodine on which he has tolerated okay, and this morning I weighed him - 34g. There could be a wee difference between vet's scales and mine, but I am pleased that he might have gained a little.
Despite all the indignity, he was giving me long blinks this morning - he really is a lovely soul!

Here's Mr Charlie back in his original home. I've minimised the need for jumping but he's already had a wee trip to the (very padded) floor. Although he could have climbed back I was pleased to note that he had the oomph to jump up half his height to a perch. Now I'll organise the small cage to be Tony's main eating place so that they can be close together as they eat. Depending on where he likes to hang out generally, I can modify the position of perches on the outside so Tony can be nearby.

Nice set up birdguhl. So good to see him happily sitting on his perch! It looks like Charlie has everything he'd want within easy reach.

What's growing in the little white container birdguhl? Great idea to have something growing inside the cage and I have a container exactly the same.

blue48, those are snowpea shoots. I buy the peas (organic) and grow them myself, both for myself and the boys. They love them and have them available all the time. When theyāre done I donate the remains to friends with compost heaps!

Love it birdguhl! I may have to try that. My guys get grass everyday but I'm worrying now about not giving them enough variety on fresh greens. They do get their chop and sprouts mix also every day. I think I'd feel better if I gave them something else that they would (hopefully) eat. It looks like you are growing it right in a food dish.

I now grow them in small quantities using a little bonsai dish. Luckily this fitted into the white cup in Cās cage.
