Just popping in to say hello

Just thought I’d check in. I’ve been so busy. My cake business is starting to take off and I’m constantly baking and decorating, I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth.
The boys are fine even though I don’t have as much time to spend with them, I do sometimes think they would be better off with someone who is not so busy all the time. I haven’t gone back to work yet, still furloughed but my return is imminent. I wish I could not go back.
Im still very emotional about loosing my mum, I went to help dad sort through her clothes etc today and it was hard going, we both ended up crying at times. He says he didn’t want to do it before now as he kept thinking she’d walk back in. It still doesn’t seem real. When she passed away I Removed her rings and today dad asked if I would like her wedding ring. I’m wearing it on my middle finger on my right hand and it feels right that it’s there.

As for the boys, I'm sure they miss you and enjoy the time they get to spend with you, but they have each other. I made the mistake of thinking my birds would be better off with someone else and I still regret following that thought.

Maybe if your cake business REALLY took off helenmat, you wouldn't have to go back to work....

But then again, if it's a hobby and you enjoy it, maybe working at it full time wouldn't give you the same enjoyment.

They're amazing though, I love them all.

Well done on the cake front.

It is hard. I also have my mum’s wedding ring on my middle finger.

I still go to tell my dad things, that’s been 3 years now. I do believe he’s with me at times. I’m glad he escaped the Covid and lockdown as he would have been shielded.

Those cakes are amazing!!! Have you thought if you could do the cake making full time instead of going back to your job or maybe do both part time?

It is comforting for you and your dad to sort through your mum's things together. Talking about our memories of people who are no longer with us keeps them with us and brings us closer. In time it will get better but right now keep sharing those memories and don't let the tears stop you. We've all lost people who were much loved and you have our sympathy.

Glad the boys are all okay. They have each other for company and will enjoy however much time you can give them. They are better off with you - you are part of their flock.

Hang in there. The path forward will appear.

The cakes are great, helenmat, as usual, but learn to say "no" or you will lose the enjoyment that they normally give you.

Thanks everyone. You are all so lovely. I would love to turn the cake making into a full time job. I need two cakes a day to make it pay. I have around 3 orders a week at the moment so who knows.

How are you getting the orders? If word of mouth, you can set up a cake page on Facebook to promote. Also Pinterest

So many people I think especially now, where they can’t have a party etc esp if a big birthday, would definitely spend on beautiful cakes

It's lovely to hear from you helenmat and to see more of your stunning cakes. I agree with ffiscool that this might just be the right climate for your cakes to take off. It takes real talent to produce cakes of that quality and once people see and hear what you are capable of it will hopefully lead to an increase in orders - fingers crossed.

It's understandable that it was hard work sorting through your mum's things. I hope that there were some smiles amongst the tears, it's nice to be able to look back on fond memories and I'm sure wearing her ring will make you feel that she's close at hand.
