I got a budgie for 8 days now. The first 6 days since I got her, I’ve been feeding her seeds. I noticed that she looked sick & puffed up. I just switched it to fresh food diet recently & I’ve been feeding her Romaine Lettuce everyday. She looks better now. But I’m just wondering if I could feed my budgie vegetables everyday? Or should I also feed her seeds sometimes? I don’t want to feed her lettuce everyday so I’m going to feed her kangkung. Is it okay to feed her dark leafy green vegetables everyday?
I tried feeding her apple but seemed like she didn’t really like it. So I don’t wanna feed her fruits at the moment.
And also I don’t want to feed her seed always since it’s not good for budgies.

One of the experts here Hezz is in Australia and she will tell you that budgies are native to Australia and wild budgies eat seeds. You should feed her a varied diet that includes seeds, vegetables and leafy greens. Look at the topic "Budgie Feeding" here for tips on what to feed her. Some vegetables are poisonous and some should be fed only occasionally. My two guys get fresh grass, chopped vegetable, sprouts and seeds everyday. Romaine lettuce does not have a lot of nutritional value so she needs something else also in her diet. If that really is the only thing you've fed her for a couple of days, poor little girl is probably hungry!

There is nothing wrong with feeding seed to your budgie. What is wrong is not giving her anything else. A varied diet is much more healthy than one that contains only one sort of food. Give her seed but also give her fresh veg every day. Forget about the fruit for the time being - fruit naturally contains a lot more sugar than our pet birds need.
