Hi I'm new (what a great start lol). So I have 2 budgies (both under 4 months old) and purchased them 5 days ago. Today I woke up and saw one of them (Sunny) have this blackish-greenish thing on the side of his beak. I searched on the internet about it but I got nothing. He's quite healthy and shows no signs of any illness. Can it just be his droppings stuck to his face? Please help!!!

It looks to me like he may have rubbed his beak on a perch or some food and got it on his beak. If that's the case, it will rub off in a day or two. What kind of perches do you have? What are you feeding them? Hang up some wet "leaves" such as Romaine lettuce, basil, parsley, etc. He may go over and rub himself on those or nibble some which will help remove whatever he got on his beak if that's the problem.
More experienced people will be on shortly to offer you their advice. It is normal for new budgie owners (as well as those who've had their budgies a while) to get nervous about any change they see. Most of the time its nothing bad but its good to check. Come back here as often as you'd like to and ask about anything. We love pictures and enjoy hearing about your experiences.

K thank you soooooo much such a relief (also its starting to rub off). Right now I have wooden perches that come with the cage but I made it rugged so it doesn't hurt their feet (I am going to first let them settle in and get use to their new environment and then I will get them the good stuff). I am feeding them seeds and fruits for now. Thank you so much for the help

Don't be too surprised if they don't eat much of the fruit. Budgies tend to like vegetables more than fruit. If you want suggestions on what to put in their cage, people here will be happy to tell you what worked for their birds. Your budgies will do better if you give them tree limbs for perches. It will exercise their feet. You can look up what trees are not harmful and look for those to use as perches. When you collect them, give them a good wash with soap and water and allow them to dry before putting them in the cage. Leave the bark on. Budgies love to chew and they'll enjoy chewing on the bark.

Also both of them are fine when I am sitting in front of the cage but as soon as I put my hand in the cage they start getting scared, they don’t fly away or anything just freeze and get to the other side of the perch far away from my hand. Do u think with more patience they are going to get better?. It has been only 5 days. And plz answer my q about the necklaces as toys. I can send u a pic if u want later 😊😊 Ty for replying

If you're not sure what the trees are in your yard, it is best not to take a chance and use limbs from them.
Concerning the necklace, it depends on what it is made of. If the beads are glass or colored plastic, those beads will be okay. If the beads are painted, the paint might be toxic. If the necklace is strung with thread, it should be okay. If it is strung with chain, your budgies might get their toes caught and hurt themselves. I would take the clasp off because they may get caught in that also. If you want to post a picture, we can give you a better idea if it is okay.

What they are doing when you put your hand in the cage is normal. They need to learn to trust you. Move slowly and talk to them. Just put your hand in the cage and leave it there for a minute or two. You might do this a few times every day. You might also hold some millet and see if they'll come over to eat it. As they get used to your hand, start holding it closer to them. Budgie training takes time and patience but is so rewarding when they trust you.

Before I got them I didn't do much research (which I regret). I didn't know u needed to get them cuttlebones. And now my bird's beaks are growing and I am scared they will bite me when I try to hand tame them. I can't get it bc my mom is a doc and she doesn't have time anymore. What should I do?

Your necklace is pretty. I wouldn't give it to them, it looks like there are many places where they can get their toes caught. Budgies like to chew things and they will grab it with their foot or crawl on it. Whenever you give them something to play with, look carefully at it to see if they might get caught on it. There have been many cases of budgies getting their toes caught on something and injuring themselves trying to get away.
A cuttlebone isn't an absolute necessity. They will keep their beaks trim by chewing on their perches, toys and other things in their cage. I have a cuttlebone in my guys' cage. They rarely nibble at it. A beak that overgrows is usually a sign of a serious illness. You can make some toys yourself with paper that they will chew on and play with. Something as simple as paper cupcake liners strung together can be fun for them. If you make toys with bits of wood make sure the wood isn't painted or treated.

By the way - don't be afraid of a bite from your birds. Budgies don't typically bite hard so it won't be painful. Also most budgies don't bite, they just move away. One of my guys has never bitten me. At some point they may bite you, try not to pull away or jump. When they bite, leave your hand there and move away slowly. You don't want them to learn that biting will make you move your hand away.
