I know, just when I understand something, another thing throws a spanner into the works. Also, I'll never know what mutations any of their parents were, so stuff could be hidden anyway! It's all so complicated Marianne

Marianne Marlow To me, despite the slight bleed of the yellow into the blue, Bertie looks darker than Indie, who is a sky blue violet.

Okay, so these will be the last photos to try and determine Bertie's mutation. Please let me know what you all think. Oh also note: Berties yellow is also all over his body, back of head and flight feathers. Especially Hezz and yellowfacedviolet (hopefully I wont have to buy you a red sports car and a years supply of harrisons) I have had a look on the interwebs and done a tiny bit of research and I found something that says: "There is a helpful way to tell if your bird is a Skyblue or a Cobalt under the Violet tint. Skyblue budgies have a emerald blue/green shade on their flights, Cobalts have more of a deep navy blue shade. This isn't changed by the prescence of Violet so can be used to tell a Skyblue Violet from a Cobalt." - courtesy of www.budgie-info.com/budgie-body-colours.htmlBertie worrying that he might not be a cobalt
You can see his green tinge on his belly in this photo. Very pretty. Never mind, Bertie; you be cobalt as you have been brought up to believe. Who are we to argue??

What's your opinion on Bertie Hezz ? If people that know more about mutations that me think he is a sky blue violet yellowface then so be it, I'll have to accept that. I just thought he bore a resemblance to my dearly departed Hector and was holding on to that. You can see his green tinge on his belly in this photo. Very pretty. In fact sometimes I feel that we over-complicate what is seemingly a simple answer. I suppose it depends on how important it is to have the absolutely proper name to put to the mutation. In my mind I'd call Bertie a yellowface type 1 cobalt. I'm always a bit cautious about using the sky blue term as, I think it was Barrie, used to almost always correct me when I thought a birdy was sky blue. I wonder what BB would have labelled him as. And where is Neville when we need him?? *Sigh*
