My adult male budgie has been through a lot. I'm definitely not giving up, but I'd like to know some special tricks that have worked based on experience. With mine, one day there's progress, the next is complete regression. I've been in contact with him for a month, and he is now in his new, big cage with lots of toys. He has stopped responding to treats, or at least much less than he used to.
I don't know if this is normal or not, but he doesn't play with his toys at all. Hopefully the more comfortable he gets, he'll begin to use them.
He also will suddenly burst into screaming fits where he'll suddenly go flapping all over the cage. These have been improving, though, and are getting less frequent. I'm still concerned, though.
Again, I'm definitely going to be patient with him. I know for a fact that taming takes time, and it will have its ups and downs. I'm just hoping for some new tips that I haven't heard before. Thank you!

It's possible that your bird needs company. The screaming fits could be a call for contact or the budgie may hear birds outside and confuse the natives for one of its own.
I tried to keep some of my birds seperate in the past and one took to screaming because it could hear the others in the next room. It didn't work and the birds in the next room also started to call back. One has even picked up the screaming call.
I know birds can be kept individually but they are flock animals. Just don't get carried away like me I now have 10 budgies 🤣

Sounds like squawky paradise to me! Thank you for the tip, though. I have been looking around for a friend to keep him some company. I'm just not sure when the right time would be to add one to the flock. He's not tame yet, but I don't want him to be lonely and depressed. He spends all day sitting next to me, but I can't make up for another bird companion. Any suggestions for that aspect? Again, thanks for the response! I also just have to ask: what are the names of all ten budgies? 🤣

Haha I have Ivy, Robin, Isabelle, Canary, Coyote, Jacob, Wallace - my new additions are Connel, Colleen and Scooter. Canary and Coyote had babies those are the new additions 😍. I've handled the little ones since in the nesting box and they have bonded with me so we'll compared to the parents. Some birds just don't like human contact. I've tried lots of different things but some of my birds don't like me. You could add another bird any time. I always say if you can do it for one then you can do it for two😂.

Patience is they key. Whether your bird will be happy to bond with you or be better with another budgie depends on his personality. Some people have one bird that interacts with them all the time and is very happy. I had my Tweetie Pie for 5 months before I decided he needed a friend and then I got Buddy. Give it some time to observe your budgie before you decide to get him a friend. Once he gets to know you, he may be happy with just you and you'll have a friend for life.

UPDATE: He just stepped COMPLETELY on my finger! I coaxed him on with a seed stick, and I am so excited by this sudden progress! I didn't try moving my finger, so I just kept it in place for him to perch on. Hopefully, we'll be able to expand on this more if we take it slow. Again, thank you for the help!
About one minute later, when I tried again, he once more hopped away from my hand to escape. 🤣 This is definitely going to take some time! I'm still encouraged, though!

It really does! I got him to do it again, too. He's still not in love with being touched or getting on my finger, but I'm still happy with the progress! He's doing such a good job.
