I've tried to understand all about colour and mutations, but nope, I don't think I can actually name off what Benji's colour might be.
I tried to take a few photos right in front of the window, and I'd say they are pretty accurate, minus the fact that the camera doesn't pick up any of the yellow on his face (which is very light - much lighter than his tail feathers - so I don't know if it's staining from something, or even a baby feather thing).
Also, wrong forum, but is it still safe to assume Benji is a he?

Such a cute little guy (I think?). That third photo does show the bit of yellow in his tail and I think his heads does look very pale yellow in that photo.

I'll kick myself if I have to rename him a third time lol. Yes, it's almost so pale you can't tell. I know there is a yellowface I that is more the color of some of his tail feathers, but not sure if they would class anything lighter than that as yellowface? It's on the edge of his flight feathers as well (which are green and blue by the looks of it, unlike my last blue/white/black budgie)

This is what I was wondering, since it is so pale (barely noticeable). I don't mind one way or another what colour it turns out to be, but it will be interesting to see what he looks like as he gets older!

Hmmm -I was thinking sky blue
What a cutie - don't think I've seen such distinct baby bars - right down to his cere in absence of baby black beak

Seems most agree that he is in fact a yellowface. I was leaning towards cobalt myself, but when looking at pictures online, I was having trouble telling the difference between sky blue and cobalt. birdguhl I was trying to figure out his age, and didn't even think about the black beak in really young budgies. I'm still thinking he's around 3-4 months, which might explain the lack of a black beak, but the really strong baby bars on his head

And yes, Ellie and tweetiepiesmom it will likely darken a little bit as this cutie matures. But SF Type 1 is supposed to be the palest of the three yellowface types so this one is very correct.

I don't think I've ever seen a yellowface this light in colour. I kept looking at him, thinking my eyes were playing tricks on me. The top of his head seems darker than his lower face, but I wasn't sure if it was more a case of his baby bars making it look like he had yellow under there. Sounds like many of you have a good eye for these things!

I don't think I've ever seen a yellowface this light in colour. I kept looking at him, thinking my eyes were playing tricks on me. The yellow showing on his tail and wings tells you that he doesn't just have a dirty face. And remember that he is very young still; that yellow will deepen as he matures, but not necessarily by much, if he is as we assume a single factor yellowface (otherwise known as Type 1).

Hezz My avatar picture was taken about 2 1/2 weeks ago (unless you meant the front facing photo of him on my finger - those were taken yesterday). Am I right in saying that most baby budgies that do have the black beak pigment early on, usually lose it by the time they are 10-12 weeks? I'm still guessing he's about 3 1/2 months or so (Benji needs a birthday ) I didn't realize that tail feathers also indicated that he has a yellowface. I'm thinking he might be one of the only budgies here that is cobalt, yellowbum SF, more so than yellowface SF kidding... kidding... lol
