Thanks everyone for your kind words and wishes. Obviously slightly different this year as there was no lunch gathering, I'm not ready to go back to visiting pubs/restaurants yet. Fortunately my local Falconry centre re-opened a few weeks ago so I spent the afternoon down there to see the big birds at play. There were flying displays from various falcons, hawks, owls and even a bald eagle. The weather was still breezy, which didn't bother the birds, but the visit was cut short when the rain started. The owls don't like the rain, especially barn owls as they are not waterproof!

Sounds like a great day our Steve. Sorry the rain had to spoil it.

Is that a yearly thing for you, stevex, visiting the falconry?

Wow, a Falconry? Not somewhere I have ever been, sounds like fun.

Is that a yearly thing for you, stevex , visiting the falconry? Yes Hezz, I like to go there at least 2 or 3 times throughout the year but this was my first visit this year as they were shut since March. There is a small admission fee to get you into the arena where you can look at the birds in their compounds and every afternoon they fly a selection, the handler also tells you a little about each bird as well as a Q&A session. For an increased fee you can arrange to have a half day experience which is more hands on and you can even go out into the nearby woods to fly them. I have had a half day experience where you put the glove on and have the birds fly to you, it's amazing to have something like an eagle owl land on your hand, they are quite big but literally as light as a feather. Marianne Marlow I assume there are many centres dotted around the country so maybe you could find one in your area and have a visit, especially when Eve is older, she'd love it.
