One of my newest additions has a very pretty tail. Is this caused by her pied mutation (I think she’s a clearflight, or a poorly marked dom. pied - no clear belly feathers), or maybe because she’s opaline, or a combination of both? I think I remember reading about dark rachis and lack of pigmentation in the vanes of the tail and/or flights somewhere in the past but I haven’t been able to find that info again and I just don’t remember exactly. Many thanks! Edits: trying to get photo to load more clearly This was the best I could do.

The latter--combination of both. It's an opaline trait that becomes particularly evident on white feathers. In this case, strikingly so--very beautiful.
Not all opaline pieds will have this feature and I've never seen an explanation as to how and why it happens or doesn't. i suspect it has to do with the variability of both mutations.
When you say 'no clear belly feathers' do you mean no white areas? If so, then she's a clearflight pied. Again, really lovely.

Very striking tail feathers. To tag someone use the @ symbol in front of their username, no space. To find someone's user name, put your cursor on their profile name, some are different, most are the same. For example Marianne is our administrator, her user name is Marianne Marlow but to tag her you need to type @(nospace)admin and Marianne Marlow will come up when you post your reply. Also don't worry about the photos' size - by clicking on the thumbnail the photo will open in another page full sized to make for easier viewing.

Ooo I need to get a new computer soon - there’s no cursor on my phone! Well let me see if this works Hezz - otherwise I’ll need to ask everyone individually what their @(name) is! :3 And the photo thing is because my connection is slow most of the time (I live in the mountains/woods) so going to an external link sometimes takes three times as long for me than just seeing a full sized image on the first page. But I’ve figured it out thanks to tweetiepiesmom on another thread :3 Thanks again! I hope (lets see if this works) yellowfacedviolet can confirm if those splotchy white spots are indicative of incomplete expression of dom. pied or if my new girl is actually clearflight! I just happen to love clearflights - although dominant pieds are very pretty too - probably because my first girl is a dark-eyed clear and she is what inspired me to begin learning about budgie genetics.

Your pretty budgie is a boy and not a girl, I believe.

Also, if you click on someone's name, you'll see their profile, their username is there 😊

Your pretty budgie is a boy and not a girl, I believe. Yes! Good catch Marianne Marlow! We were so focused on the other end we let that one slip by.
Morgan: I don't believe the blotchiness on his tummy and chest color is any indication of dominant pied. I've seen that sort of patchiness on normals, let alone clearflight pieds, which I still believe he is.

Thank you all! I did think he was a boy when I picked him(?) out. I guess I’ll know for sure with time!
