That's the thing. There's a bit of "Oh heck, what are they doing?" but then you realise the birds are fine and know the people wouldn't be doing anything that would harm them.
Rodent trapping and marking was somewhat similar in that respect.

We do this for weighing. Millet is only offered occasionally for bribes such as getting on the scales. Not at all contradictory offering treats to make sure bud is not getting too fat... Might see if we can achieve the same using the seed bowl. Oooo.. I love this..! Seems something feasible for me to try out.. My buds can go anywhere as far as it has got seeds there. I haven't ever weighed them. So many goals for me to follow! Sorry for the naive question. What should be the ideal weight of a budgie? Do i need to weigh them individually or is it okay if they are both on it.. they are like magnets 🤦♀️ I really want a weighing scale with a memory, just like the blood pressure machine. And that too, the mini ones for these naughty buddies. Never searched online though - these days they have everything!

Every bird is different (just like humans) and what is the correct weight for say an exhibition budgie is certainly not what you would want to see your little pet bud weighing in at. What is more important is getting an indication of where they sit and watching for trends either up or down. Up means they are not getting enough exercise or too much food, if fully grown; down is must usually an indication that something is wrong - your budgie is not well ... unless you are actively trying to get some weight off.

My fattest boy doesn't weigh 53gms, and he is overweight. To me that is too heavy for a pet type budgie, but maybe his stuffed friend is leaning on the scales.

I have never weighed Charlie , he is definitely not overweight in fact he is what I would call a slim budgie....my question would be......is too much millet harmful to their health?

ladybird Only really in as much as too much of any one food is bad for us. It's a bit like eating too much junk food. Indie and Yuki have stayed the same, they are 40g and 38g respectively. Indie must have more fat because Yuki looks bigger, though I do think he's heavier of feather.

I have yet to weigh Tweetie Pie. He's fast and slippery! I don't want to traumatize him by continually chasing him with my hand or cloth or cloth bag. Every time I've tried he runs from my hand for days afterward. Buddy is a little guy. He's not too hard to catch and forgives me quickly. He weighs 38gms.
