I stopped breeding budgies and passed most of mine on to a friend a few years ago, so I have forgotten a lot of what I did know. My friend keeps in touch with me on how the birds are doing and how the babies are coming along, if he has a question I try to remember the answer haha! There is this one that is bugging me and I can not figure it out.
He has a double factor spangle hen, she's white, he's breeding her to a single factor spangle male who is blue. How is he getting yellow chicks? White, I would expect and some blue spangles but where are the yellows coming from?! He's sure she isn't crossing with a green before going into the breeding cage.
How long could another males "deposit" last in the hen if she was bred in the aviary?

There are two explanations I can think of:
1. One of the parents was double factor type 1 yellowface, which look normal, but when bred produce single factor type 1 yellowface, which do have yellow faces. But on white birds, the yellow can spread over the entire body, as in creaminos.
2. Despite what the owner says, a green bird got at her.
Are all the chicks yellow?
