Gotta say, Shakespeare plays all have a similar theme, dunno if you've noticed? Most of them die by either poisoning or stabbing! But there is one that didn't. Can you name them?

You must have all gone to Posh schools, we never studied anything like that!!! Probably I am too old to have them on the curiculum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be JOKING Sue! We did it purely because a curriculum came into force in 1988 so it was part of English study

samwiseg I don't recall any deaths in a Midsummer Night's Dream, but we were 9-10 and it was probably a heavily altered version. Well, it was a musical.

Two come to mind: Cleopatra dies from an asp bite and Othello strangles Desdemona.

Well ours wasn't a posh school, we only studied Julius Caesar. But the kids were so disruptive that I don't remember any of it.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..
.. I'm aware that it's not a shakespeare quote by the way!

Here in New York City, as kids we too were introduced to Shakespeare with 'Julius Caesar' in the 9th grade. 10th grade was "As You Like It", 11th grade was "Romeo and Juliet" and 12th grade (the last year before university) were the two great tragedies, "Hamlet" and The Scottish Play (there's a long held superstition about not saying the title that begins with Mac..)
My British OH, who was educated there through university, had never seen Shakespeare, which surprised me, until we went together to a Broadway production of "Hamlet" starring Ralph Fiennes. It was thrilling.

You are of course correct yellowfacedviolet! However I was actually thinking of Ophelia (who drowned) she wasnt stabbed, strangled or poisoned

However I was actually thinking of Ophelia (who drowned) she wasnt stabbed, strangled or poisoned And I bet there are a couple more that we're not thinking of, in some of the less performed and studied ones--i.e. "Titus Andronicus," "Coriolanus" etc. And there's a substantial body count in both of those.

I actually grew up in Virginia on the east coast. We studied "Romeo and Juliet" first, then Julius Caesar, the Scottish Play and finally we each picked another play that we hadn't studied and had a group discussion on the various choices. It sounds like all school systems agree a well rounded education must include Shakespeare.

I am impressed with those who went to schools that studied more than one Shakespeare play. I only did the Scottish play & alongside that, recall a great strain trying to get through Pride & Prejudice! I referenced 'double, double, toil & trouble' in one of my blog posts, featuring the marvellous Phineas: Blog post
