I know it's a territorial and dominance thing so I shouldn't interfere unless blood gets drawn, but Yuki keeps biting Indie's feet. But what gets frustrating about it for me is that they'll be perched together and Yuki will lean down and keep nipping at Indie's feet until Indie leaves the perch for a different one, and then Yuki will follow Indie and start on at him again. I ended up risking putting Yuki off my hands by catching him and putting him in the travel cage for a few minutes this evening to give Indie some peace because Yuki had nipped him hard enough that Indie was holding his foot tucked up, which is the second time Indie has done that after a nip. Anything I can do or is it just a case of leaving them to it? Indie's so quiet and timid that it feels like Yuki's being unnecessarily mean when Indie hardly tries to defend himself.

The good thing is it is usually something they grow out of - naughty boy (or girl!) behaviour that they drop as they become more mature. On the down side, apart from time out to give Indie a break, you can't be on watch 24/7. It could be that Indie's foot isn't really sore but that he is keeping it out of Yuki's reach, if he is tucking it right up into his feathers.

Thanks Hezz. It definitely occurs more inside the cage. I sometimes jokingly ask Indie why he likes Yuki. But if they're separated they'll want each other, no matter what just happened. Hopefully Yuki will grow out of it. I tell him he's cheating at the dominance game by doing that rather than squaring up properly.

I agree; it's a bit like a little boy pulling the girls' pigtails in class while the teacher's back is turned, and then pulling a face! Definitely not in the spirit of the game. But Smudge used to sneak up behind and under the boys and nip/pull their tails, little minx. So the girls can play dirty as well.

We joke that Cypress and Citrine are in a codependent abusive relationship.
Very similar dynamic.. Cypress is so quiet and unsure and gentle. My sweet sweet baby. Citrine just bulldozes him out of the way to take his treats, bites his tail to take his perch, yells at him for playing with the wrong toy, and *forces* him to go wherever Citrine wants.
But Cypress still cries for him when they are separated, poor boy.
LOL this morning Cypress got on my hand and I took him to sit at my desk with me. He actually stayed with me instead of running back to Citrine, and was getting treats from me. Citrine refused to come, but across the room started up this scratchy squawking call. For once Cypress ignored him..
So Citrine flew over, landed beside him, SQUAKED in his face, and flew off again with Cypress in a flustered hurry to follow.
Bossy brat!!
