I have a medium sized sliding window in the budgie room, which has window railing on the inside. Both my budgies realized instantly that it's a window, by checking and tapping it with their beaks while perched on the railing. So they know not to bump into it.
The bird room window has a complete tree view and both of them love chatting with the birds from these trees. Cookie loves gazing outside the window, so does breezie. Both the budgies rely on natural sunlight throughout the day and settle down for sleep by 6.30 pm and wake up around 6 to 6.30 am.
It's a sliding window, which doesn't seem to have a draft and is locked. I have checked multiple times for air draft. They both love perching on the window railing multiple times through out the day, but I am worried if the railings would be cold for their feet and if they can catch cold? Cookie is more susceptible to cold than breezie. Also, they spend time on the curtain rod too, which makes me ponder the same. Should I wrap curtain rod with something that could help them? Or am I overthinking?!
Also, worried if the sight of pigeons, crows flying past, might cause them stress?Outside birds cannot perch outside my window, there's no space for that.
I saw cookie's tail shivering (not bobbing) twice today a bit. I have seen her shaking earlier whenever she is scared of something. Was she just balancing, or shivering due to cold or spooked by bird flying outside? One time I saw her, she wasn't preening, but sleepy on the window railing during afternoon. I observed her the whole day.. saw her twice doing that.. I'm not sure what could be the reason..so, I increased the room temp a bit today & planning to feed them some safe herb water tomorrow & a lamp to increase temp during the day, which I use everytime they feel cold. She is eating drinking flying running around well and she was chirping post her shaky tail. There are no other symptoms, no runny nose.. mostly i didn't see her fluff up her feathers. I did observe her on one feet yesterday, but can't recall abt today. I don't have a good experience with out of cage situation. I'm just worried about her...Is there something to worry? I'm a bit of over thinker about such situations, but don't want to take chance.
