Hi guys sorry for the dramatic title but I feel it is accurate. We have had Peaky for 1.5 months I believe he is approx 14 weeks old. He became comfortable in his cage after a week. He always has seed I am trying with the vegetables and he sleeps in a dark quiet room every night for 10-12 hrs. He also has toys, a big cage and we leave the door open for half the day (his wings clipped). When I speak/sing to him while he is in the cage he jumps on the bars and tries to peck me while making those dolphin type noises. When he is out on the floor he comes after me and my 3 year old and tries to bite our toes and our clothes! I used to try to perch him with my finger but the bites hurt. I use the wooden perch and he aggressively tries to peck that as well again making the dolphin sounds. He is zero scared of us. In his cage he is happy, chirping and playing. I used to have budgies as a child and it seems like this is very odd behaviour? Am I wrong? Thanks in advance

I don't know if maybe having his wings clipped and him not having the freedom of flight to escape the situation of being on the floor.
See what others think....

Could be that. Could also be that he's reached the grumpy, hormonal stage of adolescence.

Are you sure its a "he" and not "she"? Everything I've read says the hens in general are more territorial. That combined with being hormonal and clipped might explain it. That doesn't solve the issue of what you should do to help so hopefully the experienced members will come along to help you. We'd love to see pictures of your budgie.

Yes I totally think he is acting more like a hen! But when I posted under gender they suggested a male. Obviously could be wrong. He has been acting this way for many weeks so I’m not sure if it’s a hormonal thing?

Truly a little beauty! I've noticed that the people here are usually accurate in determining the gender but sometimes they could get fooled because of the lighting. Time will tell. Odd that your little one is attacking inside and outside the cage. How long has he been behaving like this? He might be getting ready to go through his first molt. Can you see any pin feathers on his head? Hopefully someone with a lot of experience will offer suggestions so we can all learn.

I just snapped this picture this morning. The first week we had him He was very quiet and would reluctantly sit on my finger to have a treat. He would also close his eyes when I would talk to him. However the second week when he became comfortable he was sure to let us know he wasn’t interested in us. The eyes closing has stopped of course since he always wants to peck. We bought him 1.5 months ago when he was about 8 weeks. We don’t mistreat him at all if anyone is wondering....

I am certain nobody thinks you are mistreating him, so don’t think that. My Charlie started out sweet and lovely, but he soon turned into a biter. He is two next January, so he is what he is. I know he loves me really and we have a wonderful bond but he just doesn’t like being touched ( so I don’t) He is very tame and a wonderful talker and I don’t take his nips personally. Sorry I am not any help with your bud, but he is still young and as others have said he may be going through adolescence. Try not to react , having said that it is difficult not to as it really hurts.........Can you get a front view of his head, it’s better to tell the sex ?

Ahhh, I see why everyone said you have a boy - the color right around the nares isn't a very white color. In person is it that pale blue color?

Could be a little girl - I'd suggest wait and see. Around 6 months old I think it should be more obvious.
