The RSPCA near us very rarely seems to have any.

Very interesting, @sillycat84 - a kakariki is a new one to me. Just been reading up a wee bit. So they are much bigger than buds - difficult to get a sense of scale from that pic. They sound lovely. Do hope she finds the right home. blue48 - the site is down for maintenance so can't see who's making you itch...

Very pretty budgie. 96 miles from me. If only I could drive/lockdown wasn't in place.

Oh dear, I've now got an interest in looking at budgies & 'tiels on rehoming sites... To give my two penn'orth on owning cockatiels, they are incredibly social birds that love to be in on everything you're doing. I've had 5 altogether (3 rescue-to-rehome, 2 my own) & it's a full-time job as Hezz said. It breaks my heart to see a lonely 'tiel sat in a cage, they really do suffer when left alone. Much thought & planning required before taking one on.

Uh oh - looks like I've started something... I've got it bad. Have been watching youtube vids on mixing zebra finches and buds. And there's a lonely canary in Glasgow... As well as ?Covid-related urge to hoard and surround myself with budgies, this is being fuelled by Charlie having gone from 44g to 37g in last couple of weeks... He seems ok generally, but more definitely more wobbly. He's out in the playpen area just now but I've had to increase the height of the sides because he nevertheless surprised me when he jumped up on it. Next stop floor! Tony Bones Cheeky Beans also will need a friend or two of course, and I don't want quarantine to prolong this interregnum period. I've been in touch with Tony's breeder again but not heard back yet.

My friend posted that a budgie had been seen sitting on the bridge at Auchinstarry Marina, which is only 10 minutes from me - a turquoise baby boy, still with a few baby bars..... I actually went looking, but didn't see him. 🙁

Oh dear this is distressing, especially when it becomes a "NEED to have" rather than "shouldn't have" lol!
Lovely pretty Parrotlet, I've heard they don't do well with each other either until it comes to breeding them let alone other birds. If you do have other birds you need to keep them separate and if you do let them out you must supervise!

@cal How do you think a tiel would fare if there were other birds in a cage near its own during times when the humans are out of the house?

@cal How do you think a tiel would fare if there were other birds in a cage near its own during times when the humans are out of the house? The only time I had a cockatiel with budgies was when I took in 2 rescue buds whose owner had died & a 'tiel who'd been really neglected. They were in separate cages in the same room, let out at the same time. The buds were a bonded pair of males (one's band showed him to be 10 years old) & didn't really bother with the 'tiel, he became very attached to me & would go with me everywhere around the house. He didn't really bother with the buds at all. My neighbour at the time did complain that the 'tiel screeched a lot when I was out. The buds went to a pensioner for his grandkids about two months after I got them, the cockatiel was rehomed about 6 months after that. Other than that I don't really know, I'm afraid.

@cal Thank you. I was just curious to hear your thoughts seeing as you'd owned them.
