Sorry Hezz, when I said that you were better at explaining, I meant how the bird came to be opaline, isn't it one of those sex-linked genetic traits so that a specific parent would have to be opaline or something? Simple genetics; as Marianne Marlow has explained, you bird is of the opaline mutation. Everything you have described are traits of this particular mutation.

I didn't get the feeling that the poster was looking for an in-depth discussion on budgie genetics, but simply hadn't seen an opaline before. I didn't think this is a bird that has been bred by the OP, so he would have no way of knowing the parental history of the bird.
