Cookie and breezie are two beautiful re-homed pet. Based on the experience, it seems they had never seen anything apart from seeds. They were however, brave to try the green leafy veggies and went crazy over them.
The time I got them, they were in an extremely small cage. My mom guided me to get a bigger wider cage, where they can walk and fly. I got the biggest available cage for them. Admit to not having all the bird knowledge before getting them. Learning all the way.
Breezie has been the singer, the day I got him.. I could bond with him over singing, since I love singing too. I had been working full time back then, so I got them a radio to keep them entertained. It was definitely a gift for breezie, since he loved singing & refuses to do anything other than eating, singing & flirting with Cookie. And obviously, screaming at cookie when she doesn't pay attention to him!
Cookie is the adventurous kind. She loves exploring and shredding everything and anything that comes along. She loves bathing in the drinking bowl, the moment I have replaced it with fresh clean water.. Bathing bowl.. Naah! It's lovely to see her shredding, then running all the way to breezie to calm him down and give him a brief span of attention.. Then smartly she runs back to her shredding task. After screaming for a while, breezie explores the shredding task, finds it boring and goes back to his singing practice!
Breezie loves spray bath. When in cage, he used to jump to the cage side walls and would spread his wings to enjoy the spray bath. Funnily, I saw them scratching here and there yesterday (almost towards the end of moult). I found them comfy in the room & decided to try spray bath. Breezie loved it and jumped a window railing down to enjoy it (big achievement, with a giant human on the side). He wanted to flap his wings, just like he used to do in the cage. But obviously, he was confused where to jump, as there were no cage walls. He flew towards my head two times and went back. He hasn't been that close to me! 😍 I love these natural advancements from their end towards me, without any kind of training! It takes time though, to admit!
They used the cage walls earlier to scratch their head. They rarely scratch each other - have seen them do that rarely.. Finally, they are using the cage door to scratch their heads, during their snack time on cage top.. It's so funny watching them like that..! 🥰
Though the cage top doesn't have the play gym yet.. it has their food.. they run around on the cage top, try to balance on the cage door and sing there for hours.
During the morning hours, the birds from the adjacent trees chirp a lot. They both love to interact with them, for long! I wonder often, if they would be telling the neighbor birds that they get food & toys from a giant human here! 😍 Also, wonder that the other birds might be telling them the adventures and places they have been..!
Breezie is very possessive about Cookie. The moment she talks to another bird, a screaming session is in place. They have stayed over at my mom's place when I traveled other places & she owns 6 budgies. Breezie kept screaming at all others, to ask them to stop talking with Cookie. Cookie is a chatterbox, when it comes to new birds! My mom says he always wants Cookie to listen to his songs & is over possessive! 😅
If ever they are scared, they run to each other. If breezie ever sees Cookie stressed out, he runs to her and does the quick beak kisses with her to calm her down. I see the love in Breezie's eyes for her. And Cookie?! Oh, she has to show a bit of tantrums to him..that's mandatory in the Budgie Book of Rules! 😃
