I also offer them oregano from time to time. I read it is good for their respiratory system and Buddy seems to have respiration problems occasionally. A first they both ignored it. The past couple of times, Buddy nibbled the little leaves. I put a piece in their cage this morning and Buddy has been nibbling the leaves. As I type this, Buddy is kissing the grass I gave them. I guess he likes it.

I wish I could get hold of carrot tops more often. BertieB loves them but II don't often see them with the tops on.

Sometimes, they act like a darling baby. Look at them eating all new veggies together.Once cookie steps up on the food bowl, I rotate it slowly to move her away from Breezie, so that she doesn't send Breezie away. Somehow, Breezie understands when she tries to send him away & I tell him to stay and eat 😅 Somehow, their fights over food have reduced and they decided to co exist in peace, most of the times! I'm not sure if they understand, but I use a baby language word to ask them not to fight since a year. Now, if they squabble a bit and I tell them not to fight, they actually stop. And my tone isn't strict anytime, it's just casual normal, the ones like 'No, baby, don't fight, good birdie!' They are so smart!!! Cookie had a beet on her beak and she later started preening her feathers.. it's all gonna be red! 😅🤭🤫 I'm always amazed how their actions are most of the time, in sync - be it preening, rubbing their beak on the perch, tilting their head to look at me...🤔😮😲 Post last preening session, Cookie had a feather stuck in her nostril. And she ate it!!!!!! Shhh.. don't tell anyone she ate her old feather! I asked her why, I give her enough food to eat! 🙈🙉 She decided to ignore me and compose new music instead. 😂 PS: Breezie licks my hand/touches it with beak many times, when I am feeding greens to Cookie. I'm not sure what it means. Is it like checking out a new potential perch? 😍🥰

They are lovely. Breezie looks very much like Smudge, my first hen.

I hope I'm not flooding the forum with these posts! 🙈
Since both of my birdies were showing interest in my hand and fingers, I thought about trying step up training once again, if they feel comfortable. They were comfortable, apart from the fact both of them fighting over it - i don't want them to disturb the harmony of co existing in peace due to any kind of training. Hopefully something would work out on that front. I was lenient with the millet spray, since this is the first time they have been responsive to it. I don't want to push it too far and loose the trust I have gained in a year!
It's a long 5 min unedited video. Please feel free to skip a part 😅 Both of them gave me the honor of half a foot on my finger 🥰 Elated!
As far as I can understand them, they seem pretty chilled out about my finger and the training. They recognize millet as a food nicely now and go crazy about it as well.
Since Cookie felt left out towards the end, after moving Breezie away, I let her have more millet. Anyways, she is a slow eater as compared to Breezie. They both had the millet leftover as a feast, after a 10 min training.

They don't have any idea what foraging is. So, I tried this today for their evening snack, could it be called a Veggie roll?! 😍😋 I kept some of it on the leaf top to lure them in. Also, they like spinach leaf when facing backside, maybe easy to catch hold of. So arranged it that way. The veggie chop includes carrot, beet and capsicum mixed with cooked quinoa, moong beans and a few sprinkled raw crunchy seeds. They are trying non greens too and that's a lovely progress. And here goes their reaction to it. They didn't understand the entire concept, but it went well to start with. I used spinach leaf this time.. could keep changing the leaf.. I didn't take the post snack image.. it was a perfect birdie snack mess. 😅

That's just the way I talk to BertieB, like a proud mummy Now that he's talking, I can pick up the inflexions of my own voice. Embarrassing!

They did step up on my finger today!!! 😍 To avoid them from fighting over millet and disturbing the harmony, I lured breezie to opposite perch and used both my hands to train them. Breezie stepped up right away on my finger placed in the same way and also used my thumb as his perch. Cookie was attentive and cautious and took some time. I don't specifically remember now if she stepped up with both the feet or one. They have also tried out all the perches in the cage, except one ladder. They have never been interested in a ladder, so I had attached it as a perch side wise in a corner of the cage. But, it's good progress to see and they are surprising me every moment now!!!! That's so lovely 😍 Cookie also played with the paper stars for a while. Yesterday I saw her sitting in a bowl that was empty, intended to keep green veggies.. but I added paper star toys and other things to play along with mineral block there to convert it to a permanent food bowl and not a potential nest! 😅 She did play with a couple of them today morning. I'm so in love with both of them 😍 blue48 Haha. I seriously talk to them, as if they are my little kids and in such childish language. I really hesitate to share these videos with anyone else apart from family and on the forum, since no one has ever seen me talking like this.. everyone will be shocked! 😅🙈 I don't expect mine to pick up talking, since they have each other's company.

Happy first anniversary to Cookie and Breezie with us! 🥰😍 Today is an emotional day for us!!! I don't know their hatch day or exact age, I am calling it their first anniversary with us!!!! 🥰😍🤩😘🤗 We learnt a lot about each other during the entire year. As anniversary gifts to Cookie & Breezie from us, they got a new cage, tree stand, play gym, loads of toys, weighing scale, air purifier and a camera with dual audio (so that we can interact with them even when outside the house - I know I'm obsessed!).They gifted us loads of cuteness, love, lots of trust, courage and optimism. Anniversary goals for upcoming year: 🤩 * First and foremost staying healthy and adapting to healthier lifestyle. * Getting their seed diet to 25 percent from current 60 percent. They are seedaholics!!!! * Grow more non wheatgrass, which takes a bit more time. * Get them started with basil leaf, other new veggies, fresh greens, sprouts & steamed food, some new treats with bird safe binding agents * Training them a bit (hopefully) * Possibly start weighing them (with their permission of course!). * Hopefully, getting them out of cage again 🙈 I tried making a protein cake for them topped with a new veggie to try out. They didn't get the gist today, so I had to unbind it for them to eat it properly. Today, it didn't have much seeds, their favorite veggies or moong bean. Still, they ate it for a while! They loved the egg cake..and ate it forever! That's good progress 👏 It has been a long year and they have come far as compared to last year. They have learnt to trust us, tried out new food and trying to learn what to do with the toys! Kudos babies! Love you both forever 🤗😘

mona, is that okra in one of your photos? Did you cook it first? I gave some to Loki once. Uncooked. He went in hard for the first few nibbles, had to stop and wipe his beak with a very confused look on his face, he didn't give up though and went back in still with enthusiasm, again stopped to wipe his beak and third try was very tentative, then gave up altogether. He was so sure he was going to like it but was stumped by the gooeyness. Poor boy.

Thank you willowsmum ffiscoolCookie Breezie are sending happy chirps, saying thank you all.. 🤗 Sure, skysmum always welcome for a tea and quick snack 🤗 After I made the egg one for them, I thought I could actually create a human version of the same, for my hubby and in laws. They all eat eggs. 🥰😍 These birdies are an inspiration for so many ideas!!! Hezz Yes, that's raw okra. They did relish the seeds. My mom give them okra split in half across the length and they attack all the seeds. I didn't think about the sticky texture actually.. since my other steamed mashed stuff absorbed it. They didn't go for the cake smash for the one with okra, I had to unbind it and spread it all over for them to eat! 😅 Mine are afraid if I keep a single veggie there, so I have been thinking about cutting okra across the length and stuff it with their favorite veggie mash or beans..
