That was probably my mistake - not cutting it open. I was at the fruit and veg market and saw them there and thought how he might like to try. I only bought one. Caught heaps from the family with all sorts of rude and hilarious comments for buying one okra. Well, I didn't by it for them, did I?? Silly humans! So your little birds did better than my bigger bird, and what a year they have had with you!

Hezz Couldn't agree more! π I get green bell pepper/capsicum for them only. At times, I ask for only one from the vegetable vendor and he gives me without charging money, even if I insist π
I tried okra, the way my mom gives it to them, stuffed with their carrot beet chop. If they don't show interest in anything, I sprinkle their seeds and push some deep inside for them to dig in and accidentally taste other stuff. Β Seems to work so far! Cookie relished it and loved picking and throwing the cut pieces too.. They are really getting good at trying new things. I could move the food bowl with Cookie on it around the cage a bit! They seem to love carrot and beet chop. Go crazy for it, even without the seeds sprinkled.. and both are getting red on their feathers again!

They are doing so well - a lot of budgies won't be tempted to try anything that is red, but orange seems to be okay. Watch out that OH doesn't get jealous of the time you spend preparing birdy food, and not his!!

Haha.. It seems I spend way more time with them! I have been tricking my hubby into eating more nutritious food as well.. Probably, he would want me to move out of the kitchen for a while π
Yeah, all of a sudden (but touchwood), the birdies are trying every new food I give to them & I'm taking full advantage of that. So glad that they are eating all of it..

Today breezie managed to open the small slider cage door and squeeze out of it to meet my mom's budgies. He has never done that earlier.. the slider door has an anti escape mechanism! I guess I can't rely on it anymore (it's the old cage that had caught rust previously before powder coating). I just saw him hanging on my mom's budgie cage and chatting with other budgies.. He was too busy to observe any other development in the room.. I was scared to catch him, but my mom caught him softly with a cloth and left him in his cage.. Later, he screamed the entire day to let him out.. I had been expecting that he would do that after a while, since this cage is smaller than their cage π€¦ββοΈπ I would have let them meet, if cookie breezie weren't ill earlier.. Secured the cage slider door! Mom's budgies are too curious to meet cookie breezie too. The vet said it's okay to stay in separate cages on same floor..

Clever boy! Tweetie Pie learned how to lift the slider doors where the food cups go on the hospital cage - he was trying so hard to get back to Buddy. They will surprise you, won't they.

Poor tweetiepie.. Thankfully & hopefully he won't do that again, being together with buddy now..

Oh wow! He is clever!
I was always worried about mine opening the door on their own. Not in their room, but when I take them outside. They havenβt ever tried to. I suppose they feel safer in their cage and not so adventurous as to want to escape and explore. So I have been pretty relaxed about it and havenβt been securing the smaller doors closed with anything...
Maybe I should...!!

Cookie has learnt that my mobile has videos and movies.. She demands mobile phone at her service at her own time and mood..
I don't want to show them the budgie video (to avoid breezie screams), so I ended up showing her Pixar's Piper animated short film. That's the video so far in which she is pretty interested. She has shown interest in Rio birdie song too.. Finding some other short animation movies too for her.. She watches some random stuff too while I'm watching something. Breezie isn't interested in mobiles and videos. I love Cookie's reaction when she doesn't like the video, she would just stare at me to change. If she loves it, she would try to go inside the phone to meet the animated characters ππ
She's inside the cage during this activity, while I put the mobile phone inside. Since their cage is on my bedside, she hops and runs towards my side and watches me sends contact calls to show her the video. Hopefully I can record the moment, when I have two mobile phones with me π
