I had saved a bird breeder contact for my mom. He posted a video of birds some time back on whatsapp. The cage was full of birds and rabbits in separate cages. But, they didn't have space to even move. It was so painful to even look at. It was like the public transport full of people who can't even move. Imagine staying like that at home!
I texted him right away that it isn't the right way to keep birds and animals and it's cruel. He deleted the video from status. But, I couldn't move on. So, today's news feed showed up a pet trader arrested for wrong cage size and stuffing birds like that. I sent that news link to him. He argued with me for a while that he knows about the rule.. it has been just approved by the government this month.
I was so angry at him that I actually searched all the Indian acts for animal protection & pet shop rules, transportation rules, etc. I read all the Acts, which were formed way back in 1960.
So, I had a huge argument with him then. I sent him all the Act with exact name and sections. Once he realized that I know about the constitutional bills, acts and amendments passed, he was terrified then. I warned him that if I see another video, image or pets stuffed like that at his shop, I will report him too! He thought I am from some non profit organization & I didn't break his illusion. Still feeling so enraged!
The arguments he made were so irritating! "If we don't transport pets like that, we won't have profit margins!" πππ€ I mean, they have the pet trade/breeding business and they don't know about the legal acts of the country regarding that. I even got to know that there are laws for pet owners and pet training too. I am going to use these legal act details, with anyone who is misbehaving with pets (including the people who are using birds for instagram popularity- torturing and forcing their birds to learn tricks!)
I also need to find a proper space for my country where I can report such traders! And I really want to report this breeder turned trader.
Everyone's running after profits for any business I see. Well being and safety is completely ignored. I can't get that video off my mind!
I had a similar argument with another bird toy seller. I enquired about the tree wood used and they didn't respond back. So, I raised an amazon request to get those details. The seller responded back with a list of all non safe trees!!! When I said these trees are safe tree wood examples, they responded back saying those are imported tree woods, not available in our country. I sent him back the list of forests in India, where these tree woods are found. There are so many products being sold from the safe wood trees including furniture! I have visited those forest places and collected those tree woods! How are these people running a business, without any knowledge!!! I have posted the response politely on amazon review for the product, if it gets approved. Also, raised a complaint on amazon that I won't be buying any toy from amazon ever, since no one specifies the basic information required to buy toys! So many people are happily buying such toys, thinking it's from a safe wood tree.
Today had been a bad day. Tomorrow, I will be drafting a summary of Indian Animal cruelty prevention act, pet shop rules and pet owner rules for quick reference and share it locally on a public forum within my country!
