I was in a car accident today, someone ran in the back of me whilst I was waiting to turn right. Feeling very sore and stiff. Anyone been in this situation and got any advice? The police came and an ambulance and its all a bit blurry, I just felt like I was in a dream. The other car has admitted fault. Just glad no one was seriously hurt, cars can always be repaired and my insurance are sending me a hire car in the morning.

You poor thing! Horrible! I would say go to your gp if need be in case of whiplash. Sometimes aches/bruising come out after a few days. Is your car badly damaged, can be repaired? I know last thing on your mind at the mo but if yes, that’s ok. If unlikely you’ll need to claim more if you need to replace your car potentially
Have a hot bath, painkillers if needed.
I had this many years ago. My car was written off. Hence my asking re damage.
Hope you get a decent night’s sleep.

Oh, how horrible for you! Yes, someone rear ended me about 4 years ago and did enough damage that my car was towed away. I did not go to the hospital and the police were kind enough to drive me home. The next day I saw a couple bruises on my wrists which I must have hit on the steering wheel. My neck was sore and I had a headache. I did put a hot pack on my neck and took some asprin for the headache. Since you are already sore, I suggest you put the hot pack on now. Tonight before you go to bed, use something like Ben Gay - a topical pain relief cream. "Bengay arthritis cream is used to relieve muscle and bone pain. It contains salicylates, camphor, and menthol. Bengay reduces inflammation and has cooling and warming effects." There must be a similar product in the UK. Hot pack throughout the next couple of days will help keep those muscles limber and keep them from tightening up and causing pain. Do some slow gentle neck rolls. I went to my chiropractor and this is what she recommended.
Best wishes!

So sorry to hear this, clt80 - really horrible experience. Do go very gently and good advice above. If you find that your mind is tending to run through the events just let it - a way of processing this jolt out of your normal life into this. Probably lots of emotions too - again normal. If these things don't happen - again normal. Just be kind to yourself. Keep us in touch with how you're doing.

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon and I'm glad it wasn't more serious. It must have been very scary though.

Thanks everyone.
Necks very sore this morning. I led in bed just going over and over it, reliving it.
Soon as I got home yday I had a red hot bath, I felt so cold and couldn't stop shaking. In hindsight it was probably just shock.
I'm off work today, but hoping to go back tomorrow. The car can be repaired, I am grateful that it wasn't any worse and we are all okay.

Oh I hope you are alright and haven't hurt yourself too badly clt80? That must have been VERY scary, good job that you can get a replacement car whilst your car is being repaired. More concerned about you though! Let us know you are alright yeah?

Hi clt80. Sorry this has happened to you. At least the other party had admitted fault which takes a lot of stress away from the legal process, although I don't see that they could have done anything else. As long as you are feeling well enough, I think it's a good idea to go back to work. It will help you to get over the shock, and do talk about it as that will help too. I think Biofreeze is a similar product to the Bengay advised by tweetiepiesmom which is sold here. I hope you're soon feeling better.

cit80 I totally agree with all the above advise......I was also in a car accident , I was a hairdresser coming home from work driving down a main road, and a car came out of a side road and shunted me across the road and into a wall......he came running out of his car and told me I had been driving too fast!!. Not...are you alright! Anyway I didn’t feel too bad and refused to go to the hospital, just wanting the police to take me home....BIG MISTAKE......a few days later I returned to work and suddenly seized up. Long story and that was many years ago but I never worked again.... So please take care of yourself and don’t rush to do anything .xx

I'm fine, just stiff. I got off lightly I'm sure of it. I also refused to go A&E, I just wanted to come home. Oh ladybird that sounds awful, I'm sorry that happened to you. The person who hit me was so upset, she ran straight to me and asked if I was ok before bursting into tears.

clt80 I am glad that you are alright. Take adequate rest before returning back to work. Work can always wait.. Take good care of yourself..and remember, such incidents are to help ourselves realize how valuable life is! I had been in an accident during my school days, so I don't remember it all. The driver tried saving a dog and the vehicle turned upside down. People helped and pulled us out. I must be in 5th grade. We went ahead to attend the school, I guess and realized it later that there were a couple of bruises and small injuries, when we reached back home. The dog was saved however and we all were fine too. Maybe being a kid, I just told a couple of friends and forgot about it.. It would be difficult to forget a car accident now!

clt80 glad you are feeling okay and staying home to rest. As ladybird says, sometimes symptoms show up later as you've got a lot of adrenaline in your system keeping you going. You might think about seeing your family doctor or a chiropractor just to make sure. I'd suggest you keep the hot packs going on your neck and doing the gentle neck rolls to keep those muscles from seizing up. Take care of yourself!

How are you feeling clt80? Hopefully you didn't get stiff and sore in your neck. Take it easy and relax this weekend.
