Hello.
So to begin with I have a lonely wild budgie now around 6-7 months old(male) i got him from pet store .. been with me since 2 months ago.
I keep his cage open in my bedroom all the time so he is free to fly anywhere in the room. (except when he sleeps)
I've been trying to bond with him ever since I got him, tried giving him time to settle, tried leaving my hand on his cage and gently talking with him and i'm moving slowly whenever i'm around him, also playing music or birds sounds to calm him down everyday.
Sometimes taking him outside in the morning.
Yet whenever i'm near him he get stressed so much and breath hardly or fly away(he is full flight)
He is also too frightined from hands. I reckon the reason because in pet store they catched him with hands .
The only thing he let me do so far within is feeding him millet and he refuses most of the time.(only eats little bites when he is too hungry).
He is too shy and don't play with his toys or discover much and sadly wont even eat fruits or anything we give to him ! and wont do anything all the day not even chirping!
except when he see birds from the window he starts jumping and flying and calling for them (its why i think he is just shy and not ill).
...
So basically my bird is scared of me, of my hands, of me trying to feed him.
He dont eat anything except his food.
It all make it so hard to me to tame him..I see slow progress but sometimes I think im not progressing at all.
I don't know what to try since i've tried everything i know.
The way he sits in his place all day made me think he might be a little depressed which why i'm consicdering getting him a female as soon as i tame him or even before.
I'm more worried that i might be doing something wrong or pushing him too hard?
I know every bird timing is different as they all have different personalities and so.
I'm trying my best to be patient but he break my heart when i see him sitting down not moving an inch or chirp
How do I ever tame/bond with him if he is always scared and lonely like that?
Sorry if my question isn't clear and for my bad english.
Edit: I recently made a little change with his cage placment and I placed the cage in a corner on higher location (his previous location was on the corner also but lower) I read that high places make birds feel more safe and secure.-
I will see if that will help him get less frightened.
