My budgie is a young female who hates fruits and veggies. I try to put them in her food bowl but she just throws them out! I also try to hand feed her them (I got her about 3 weeks ago and shes pretty comfy with my hand and eats out of it) but she doesn't budge. What should I do? The only thing she has been interested in was a piece of celery and all she really did was play with it. Any tips? I know fruits and veggies are super important to a budgies diet so i really need help! Thank you!

I had this issue with my 6 budgie friends. What helped me the most was finding different ways to chop it and see what texture they prefer. Some of my budgies like it shredded and some like it cut in strips! I recommend first trying to offer shredded carrots on a plate (personally mixing them with seeds did not work for them). Hope that helps

I have two young male budgies. The first thing they liked was wheat grass. I found it in the organic produce section of my grocery store. I cut a clump of grass, tied it together with a paper ribbon and clipped it to the cage. They quickly learned to love it and then I started introducing other herbs - basil, lettuces, etc. You might true a leafy green hanging in her cage. From what others have said, hens love to shred so she might start shredding it and end up eating some.

Don't bother with the fruits for now; getting them eating veg and grasses is more important. Fruits contain more sugar than is necessary for our birds. It really is just a matter of trying everything until you find something that works for you and them, and if you don't find their preference first time round, try it all again. I suggest you try first off with leafy things - grasses and some of the less strong herbs, celery is a good start so add other veg to the celery, however you presented it and sit back and wait. Hiding small amounts of millet in a bundle of leafy greens can work - french millet is best for this.

My two male budgies love wheatgrass too. I also buy it at the produce section, we are still working on getting them to eat veggies. They also love to snack on rosemary.
