So I wondered if anyone could explain what genetics Casper might be? When I saw him in the shop I actually thought he was slightly blue. The birds were being what was possibly tinted glass. Anyway I got him home and let him out the box and surprise surprise he was grey. Still very handsome though. He has an odd white splodge on the back of his head and a small bluer bit on the side of head. I also think I've seen darker grey budgies? He seems slightly paler. Hopefully these pictures will help.

The splodge at the back plus the white on his chest are showing he’s a pied. Sorry I don’t know the rest

@cal I shall try him with marbles when he is tame and let you know! Despite his complex splodges he had a humble beginning at a garden centre. My previous two birds have been from a breeder but with the local lockdown that wasn't an option.
They told me he was 14 weeks old. I am not convinced as I suspect he is older than that. Obviously past his first moult as no sign of head bars or baby black eyes. Barney (his soon to be playmate) is 6 months and has only in the last few weeks moulted his head bars properly.

I'm still guessing grey (?cobalt) single factor dominant pied single factor spangle.
Also, it might be the angle but wow he looks huge!

Thanks all. Pleased to hear he is a spangle. I have a soft spot for them.
He is not huge at all, although he does have a long tail. Definitely the weird photo! I think he is smaller than Barney who is from a show breeder. That said we realised Barney was quite a bit smaller than my brother's two birds who make him look tiny!

Yes, I agree with my colleagues and specifically @sillycat84's call of Grey SF Spangle SF Dominant Pied.
And what a lovely combination it is. A very handsome fella.
