At the back of our house we have a porch with a guttering and a small down pipe. This morning when i was putting some rubbish in the bin i heard a strange noise, looking around i discovered it was coming from the down pipe . I felt a bit freaked out at first, it was a struggling scratching noise, my first thought was mouse, then RAT . At the bottom of the pipe there is a grate, now i thought, if its a mouse it would have fallen through, a rat maybe not but how would a rat get in a down pipe. Then the penny dropped, is it a bird, it began to sound more like this was the case. Thankfully OH is working from home still so i dragged him down, it could have been a rat you see . OH managed to unscrew the down pipe and low and behold out flew a tiny little Jenny Wren, bless her heart she must have been exhausted, heaven knows how long she had been in there but she was evidently trying to fly back up the pipe. A big leaf came out with her so i can only assume the leaf was covering the hole at the top and when she hopped onto it down she came. This afternoon i saw a pair of wrens in my apple tree, hopefully one was her and she is fine. A piece of wire mesh has now been placed over the hole at the top to prevent anything like that happening again, if we had been away she would have perished bless her

An exciting morning skysmum. So glad it went well (and that it wasn't a rat ). So much excitement on the forum at the moment with all of the intro's, new arrivals and now wren rescue! I love it but I must stop catching up with the posts late in the evening, I'll never get to sleep!!

Oh what a relief! Poor little mite, mind you if she was still scrabbling around and trying to fly I would have thought she cant have been in there that long as she would stop scrabbling if she had been in there a while. I know I've said it before but I am going to have to start calling you Saint Francais of Assisi instead of skysmum!!!
