I let both fly out in a different room yesterday. Bluey had just grown his flight feathers fully and he was clumsy, flew into the walls and fluttered down. It was scary to watch, as I was remembering back a scary scenario where my budgie died from crashing into glass. He finally settled on a curtain rod. Biscuit was already on the perch I had made for them. Bluey calmed down, and Biscuit joined him. I wanted Biscuit to land on my hand but he got scared, and flew above the fan, all the way round the pole, and back. Both perched on the perch. Bluey had a nap and fell asleep. I had to grab Biscuit to put him back in the cage, but Bluey was no trouble. He had a long nap after that and I guessed he was tired.

They are learning their way around the room. It won't be long before they are skilled at negotiating the room.

I let them out today, same as yesterday but Bluey is better at flying and Biscuit has found new places to perch. Both kept flying into a wall with a picture of a tree on it. The curtain was a bit ajar and Bluey flew into it, the problem is once they're in flight they're not sure where to land and often make an 'emergency landing'. They are usually very tired after that, panting so much. Bluey likes to perch on lamps. Biscuit has found a few places to land, fan, curtain rod, shelf, ironing board, and that's probably it. Bluey is still clumsy and kept going into the walls, eventually he found his perch(which was right in front of him just on the floor) and sat on it to calm down. So far so good. It was tricky to get both back as now they are fully flighted and land so high, I had to get to Bluey on a high curtain rod. He willingly got into his cage. I had to climb a ladder and tried to get Biscuit on my finger to get him into his cage, he flew to the ironing board, then back to the fan, playing a game of cat and mouse with me. I eventually had to grab him, he got mad and squawked like he usually does.

Sounds like they're making progress. They'll be more familiar with safe places to perch and how to get back home before you know it.

I hope you make sure that iron hasn't been used shortly before you let them out. If they are already moulting, it could be terrifying to be caught by you back to the cage. Maybe let them rest inside the cage for sometime and later let them out.
Even when mine weren't moulting, they were so tired that they slept the next day and I had to wake them up to eat and drink. I let them rest for another two days inside the cage, before letting them out. You could cover the tree on the wall with something. I had sealed a lot of spaces and padded the window bottom with a soft cloth just in case if they fell down.. there were soft cloth at the places where they could fall down. They sometimes used to slip from the window railings at my old place.
You could also let them out in the morning and place the food dish just outside the cage door to learn where to come back for food.. if you keep the same room and the cage at same place, they will learn to fly back to the cage for food, water and to take rest. I keep the food dish on the cage top, once they are comfy with the food dish on the top, I move it further down at the cage door and then inside.
Mine usually sleep at 6pm.. so they go back to the cage at 5pm.. and then I close their cage door for the day.

Make sure there are safe places up high for them to land on, and to retrieve them, a long perch or branch is much easier and safer for both you and them. Offer the end of the stick for them to step up onto and move them back to the cage in this manner.
