Well, that's a pretty well-rounded diet. Once again, I do not believe this is a vitamin deficiency issue. Given what you just reported, I think this is Homer's version of stress bars. And if they disappear after the next moult, and he's not stressed when the new feathers are developing, there's your diagnosis. Here's a Quaker parrot with stress bars. Look familiar?

My pleasure. An interesting journey on this one. At first I thought we were looking at the dawn of a new mutation.
And we humans do get stress bars. They're called grey hairs....not that I'd know much about that...
Here's a dramatic before and after of a conure. Stress bars on left, after treatment for the underlying cause and after the next moult on right.

And this is why I would have liked to see a moulted feather, lemonora. They certainly aren’t typical stress bars, where the feather seems to have a ridge through it. Hope his next moult has him back to his beautiful self. The next question, if we assume that these are stress related, is what happened between September and October, when the bars started to appear? No, that’s not right - the stress marks have to have formed while the feathers are developing. You really would need to know what caused them in the first place. They are not a diagnosis, but rather an indicator that something isn’t right. I’m not sure where the vitamin deficiency theme came from, but some source of Vit D is important as it helps with calcium being absorbed into the body.

I’m not sure where the vitamin deficiency theme came from, but some source of Vit D is important as it helps with calcium being absorbed into the body. As soon as I get my hand on a molted feather I will post a pic 👍 we were actually thinking about the same thing (the reason for his stress) we assumed it was the fall, but after thinking about the timeline, we think it’s because of the box cage we had to put him in at first (pic above), the first week after the fall we didn’t put him anywhere, he spent all day on our hands (we took shifts) but after the first week we stared containing him in the box like cage, we had to put rope perches because his grip was bad and kept slipping off the wooden ones, his grip has gotten better but in his new cage we kept mostly rope perches for him, he used to hate the box cage, although we kept him in it only when necessary, we still think that that’s the reason for his stress maybe, for the past few months now he has been happy in his new cage (smaller than the old one but much safer) and he really loves it a lot. I really hope he gets his beautiful feathers back after his molt as well. thanks Hezz, I appreciate your care❤️

lemonora, think of stress less as emotional stress--which certainly can be a factor--but more as an organic issue that stressed the system and caused, among other things, the newly emerging feathers to be so marked. The good news is, based on what you describe and how the stress markings are confined to one area, it appears that whatever the underlying cause was has improved. Witness how expansive the markings are on those other birds compared to Homer.

Thanks for pointing that out 👍 that is good news 🙂 such a relief, Homer’s feathers are definitely better than the pictures I just hope that whatever the reason was, that it’s gone and hopefully will never come back, I just hope his new feathers will be beautiful and healthy and I will definitely keep you updated Thank you so much for I really appreciate all your help and input🙂
