Hi I'm looking to find out whether my budgie is male or female as I'd like to get it a friend. Unfortunately age is unknown but from the bars on its head I believe its quite young? Thanks for any help!

From that photo, looks like a hen. But can you take one in natural light to be sure?

It is young, yes.
I want to say a cock because my recessive pied boy has a very similar looking cere, but as Marianne said a clear photo in natural lighting would be best.

A gorgeous little BOY ๐ Thanks! Would another male be the best option for a friend for him? Would it have to be another baby or could an older one work? Cause I'd prefer to rehome one if possible

Cause I'd prefer to rehome one if possible Two males will generally get along well, but a female is not out of the question. Age shouldn't matter too much but an older budgie may be less impressed by the energy of your young one. Make sure your cage is big enough for two to have enough space to get away from each other, fighting is more common in cramped conditions. A new budgie will need to be quarantined away from your current boy for 4 weeks. If you get a female, make sure your male is in the larger cage so that you introduce her to his cage and not him to hers, as females can be more territorial.
