Thanks! Would another male be the best option for a friend for him? Would it have to be another baby or could an older one work? Cause I'd prefer to rehome one if possible Two males will generally get along well, but a female is not out of the question. Age shouldn't matter too much but an older budgie may be less impressed by the energy of your young one. Make sure your cage is big enough for two to have enough space to get away from each other, fighting is more common in cramped conditions. A new budgie will need to be quarantined away from your current boy for 4 weeks. If you get a female, make sure your male is in the larger cage so that you introduce her to his cage and not him to hers, as females can be more territorial. That great thank you! The cage I would be looking at getting if I got another one is 158 x 77 x 52cm, is this okay for 2-3? I have another small cage where I can quarantine a new one (or two!) before introducing them to the new big cage

Are those the dimensions of the cage itself, or including a stand? And which number is which dimension? (trying to visualise, because it sounds good)

That sounds like mine, which comfortably houses 3 with enough space to fly back and forth when both OH and I are at work. Not as good as being out, but at least they can stretch their wings.

For an easy life, get another male. Hens are characters but not always the easiest to get along with. The cage is large enough for two, and if you were to get a hen as a second, then she would be being introduced into the larger of the cages, anyway.
Whether to rehome or buy from a young bird from breeder may depend on how eager you are to get the second. Any idea how old yours is?

From what I have read he is under 4 months due to the bars on his head, but he was found outside so I can't be sure. I am very keen to get him a friend as I work full time and on late shifts so can only spend time with him in the mornings.

Then I wouldn’t worry too much about the age although younger would be better if yours is young and energetic.
