It was with great sadness that I had to make that awful decision that we all have to do from time to time, to have Charlie pts. He has been going downhill slowly over the past few weeks, but over Christmas he got worse and I felt that the time had come. Course, everywhere was closed so it was only yesterday that I made the decision and phoned the vet. He had been vomiting, had a lump to the side of his vent and only the day before there was a little blood in his poo. He wasn't eating normally, and was really skinny which he had been for a while, so for his own comfort I feel I did the right thing. If my memory is correct, I don't think I ever had to take him to the vet, so this was his first and very last visit. Charlie was approx 9yrs old, an ex exhibition boy, he was my retired gentleman living in his very own batchelor pad. The other birds were too boisterous and noisy for him, and he used to fall in the big cage, cos he couldn't fly. So they just visited him and he visited them when he wanted to. He lost the capability to fly some while ago after an awkward fall, but he was a happy little chap and I ferried him around often on a spare perch. Charlie on better days: Being groomed by Benji: Mixing with the gang, only a few weeks ago: Rest in peace my dear little boy.

I'm so sorry Shirls. Charlie had a good and happy life with you and the rest of his friends. I know how hard it is to make that decision. Fly high little Charlie, I'm sure you'll be friends with my dearly departed Hector in the fields of millet.

I’m so sorry Shirls, but he was loved and cared for and got to a good age. It’s never easy, but he is probably frolicking now. RIP Charlie, you will be missed

So sorry to hear about Charlie. As you say, it was a difficult decision but the right one for him.
He reached a good age and it looks like he enjoyed his life with you and the gang.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. The gang don't seem too put out, but, being as I have Charlie's cage all cleaned and in-situ, Benji has taken to sitting on the platform by Charlie's door. He used to talk to Charlie a lot. But he just sits there singing away, so hopefully, not too sad.

It's so heart breaking to lose a bird and a friend - I do hope the flock adjust as you say - I think they must understand to a certain extent x
