Hi everyone! Writing from Canada here and I have 2 budgies now. I've wanted them for quite some time. I have a boy and a girl(according to the pet shop) I'm very concerned about their lack of drinking and eating! I've read its not good to give them constant treats. I'm trying to get them used to me. But, they're still quite scared Do you think they are drinking and eating when nobody is around? Do they really eat that tiny of an amt of water/seeds that it hardly makes a dent? If anyone could help me out id be ever so grateful

How long have you had them and what are you feeding? It is rare to see a budgie drink until it is settled and comfortable in its environment. They are in a vulnerable state while drinking, and eating to a lesser degree, so will not do so in front of you until they feel comfortable. Are they being fed food that they are used to? A change in diet has to be done slowly, and not only for their digestive tract to get used to different foods. For instance, if they are used to a seed diet and all you are feeding them is pellets, they are not going to recognise pellets as food.

Maybe you could give them a dish of pellets and a dish of seed? At least with seed you can tell if they've eaten by the husks that are left behind.
