I just got to know today about bird flu spreading in a number of states in North India and one of the southern state is on high alert. Many of the farm ducks and chicken died there.. many migratory birds were found dead in the northern part of country. My state doesn't fall in those areas yet - the one I am staying right now and one I'm going to relocate to.
I'm just worried about my birdies. I don't know enough about it. I guess it would just spread to the wild birds, right? If my birdies are indoor, they should be safe?! I read about wild infected birdies shedding virus in their poops.. so will just take the grass inside tomorrow, which I'm feeding them. It's covered with a net though, still. They are talking about culling the birdies within a specific radius in those states. I guess that's for the farm birdies. I'm sorry for them too though.. but a bit selfish about mine too..

mona - Just keep your buds inside and yes, their food too! You may also want to sanitize the bottoms of your shoes or change shoes before going into their room. When we had a bird flu scare here it was required for the wildlife rescue staff to sanitize their shoes before entering the bird facility (by walking on a mat full of some type of sanitizing solution), and anyone who had birds at home also took their shoes off outside and their clothes too before seeing their own birds. Treat it just like Covid really... viruses are nasty.

Thank you for the inputs Morgan ! We take out shoes outside the house as a rule since childhood and the shoe rack is placed outside the house or near the door in the foyer area. We have separate slippers for home, so I guess that could work out. Right now, we are putting away all the clothes in the washing machine & take a bath immediately when coming from outdoors (due to covid). I guess we can take care of those 2 points. I guess I have to just take care either to sanitize after coming from the balcony or not visiting the balcony at all. I hope the flu doesn't spread to our area though. But, I can't wait for it to show up in the news channel and act later.. better to take precautions when I can. I just hope there are no restrictions with traveling with birds. Maybe I could get a health certificate from the vet before we travel. I'm not sure how would I get it from here, but could try after a couple of days.. Normally, no one needs a health certificate when traveling with pet by road.. we would be crossing 2 states to reach our home state and none of them are currently infected with bird flu. I just hope it vanishes before we travel..

mona - I would think you should be fine traveling by road, and with pet birds rather than farm birds. It sounds like you already have the rest under control, so donβt stress! π
