I will never know if it was AGY now. My girlfriend refused to have both birds examined as she doesn’t like the thought of it. He will be cremated and put into a silver heart we have with the female budgie. She spoke with the pet store today and he said due to covid he stopped using his breeder of 20 years and got a new one so he could supply budgies in his store. She said she got the feeling that she isnt the only one that has complained about them and the shop owner was very considerate & sorry. Seems to me that this is a very bad breeder most likely using interbred birds. Still waiting to hear back from the vet but at the end of the day nothing both can say will help or bring him back. Our parrotlet is still calling out for him wondering where he is gone and its horrible to see. We are considering finding him a friend of some sort as we both do not want to leave him alone when everything goes back to normal but again we have that feeling in our heads that these awful experiences will come again. But that is life I suppose. This time i’d like to adopt and give a bird or 2 an amazing life they never had or would of had.

Sorry for your loss.. It is very sad when a bird dies, I lost 4 due to improper care, 1 to sickness, another to accident, and the last 2 to cats.

Giving some rescued birds a second chance is a wonderful thing to do, but I will urge caution - it isn’t always for the faint-hearted. Because these birds have usually had a less than ideal start to life, their health is often already compromised. Not to put you off, but more to prepare you for what may eventuate. It can be very rewarding but can also be heart-breaking.

Whilst I agree Hezz, to be fair, you never really know how much time any budgie has. I've had young birds not live long either. It's heartbreaking to loose two birdies! You did all you could.. Don't blame yourself.. None of the words might be enough to console..but you would have never known what caused them to part ways with you..

So sorry for your loss. You must be devastated but please try not to doubt yourselves, you gave them the best possible care and a lot of love. Fly high little ones, you will be sadly missed.

I don't know where you live jamesodono , but when you are ready to offer a home to a new budgie I could recommend an excellent breeder in my area and I'm sure others on here could do the same. Best wishes to you both and I hope your parrotlet soon finds a new friend.

jamesodono - I am so sorry for the loss of both your budgies within such a short time. I think giving an adoptee bird a new chance at a better life is very worthy. Finding a good breeder is also a joy - especially if they partially hand raise their babies (from two to three weeks of age). My linnie was hand raised, and the difference in her bond with me as compared to my adopted and pet-store budgies is pretty amazing. Whatever path you choose you are now wiser than before, which should aid you in your decision. Not to mean that you could have known about your previous two birds’ potential health issues, but you can better inspect a new breeder’s setup or an adopted bird and hopefully have a more positive outcome this time. Please stick around also to learn more and ask whatever questions you might have if you decide to get another budgie. We’re all here for you! <3
