I've started wondering if there might be some genetic elements at play when determining who is dominant in a flock.
It may just be coincidence, but Yuki is the most dominant of my three at the moment and his father is the most dominant of the breeder's birds.
I'm sure there are plenty of other factors I work, it was just a thought that caught my interest.

I would think that to be true in some regard. Personality is about 60% genetics I think I read somewhere, but don’t quote me on that, I have no idea how that might have been figured out It would follow though that an assertive set of parents (or even just one) might produce more assertive offspring, since there are definitely genes that code for certain personality traits - even in humans! My mom was actually talking to me about it, I remember now. Probably something to look up for myself. Specifically with breeding budgies, you are supposed to choose pairs that complement one another, or at the very least are not aggressive, because their offspring are likely to have a combination of their personality traits and temperament.
