Each night before I go to bed I go out to check on the buds, make sure the hut is warm enough, that they are all settled and asleep. Last night as I opened the door I saw a white wing on the newspaper sprawled out; it was Roxanne.
Roxanne had a big lipoma on her tummy, she managed fine but I knew one day it would be too much for her. Dorothy had the same many years ago and I allowed the vet to operate on her; a decision I regret to this day so I did not go down this route for Roxanne. She had the fatty tumour for a few years and she had her beloved Heathcliffe (and all the other boys) running around after her.
Roxanne came from a house 20 miles away with Shirley and John back in 2016. The latter two were paired up and older, Roxanne was unwanted and only a baby who'd had her wings clipped. I felt so sorry for her that I said I'd take her aswell, paid them the money and left. I was told she'd hatched summer 2016 so she'd be 4.5 yrs old now. Still young in my mind for a budgie.
She was always very cheeky, always in trouble and always, ALWAYS TURNING THE SEED POTS UPSIDE DOWN!! Anything that had been wrecked or chewed was sure to have been done by Roxanne.
In the early days she paired up with Rupert, a similar coloured purple budgie. They were happy for a few years until Heathcliffe became single and made a move, poor Rupert got the elbow and Heathcliffe and Roxanne were inseparable from then on.
Roxanne will be greatly missed by not just the flock and Heathcliffe but by myself too; she was such a character I really loved her.
Roxanne - be good over at Rainbow Bridge, we all love you, fly high sweetheart xxxx
