Today was the first day that both Lily and Snowy came out the cage together! I put my hand in the cage and Snowy slowly crept up my arm and flew out onto the top of the cage. Then after a few minutes Lily found the doorway to go and join Snowy. Snowy flew around the room a couple of times! Lily clung to the cage, but she's not been out as much as Snowy. Here is a pic of them:

Thank you! Yes, it's great to be able to let them out to play now. Snowy gets back in again fine, but Lily is a bit stubborn and doesn't go back when she's told! They love flying about and singing outside the cage. They've decided that the window handle is their perch when outside the cage, despite the fact we bought them two perches to use!

Haha they hardly ever do as they’re told! Sometimes for millet They usually like to be at the highest point in the room. And if the perches are new they may not trust them yet. Eventually they will discover all the places to perch and find what they like best. I put three branches up high, about equal with the curtain rod as I could, to try and get them to perch elsewhere because I was getting tired of cleaning their poop off the windowsill every day. Then I was gifted new curtain rods and curtains from a neighbor who was moving, and they avoided the new scary rods and curtains for a bit. I took that as an opportunity to try and teach them not to perch there anymore once they started trying to again. I was pleasantly surprised that most actually listened, but my first budgie Pig must know she’s special, because she’s the most stubborn about getting off xD

Every day, I put my hand in the cage and Snowy trots up my arm and flies out, and then Lily makes her own way out after him. They come out every morning and enjoy flying around the lounge and sitting on their window perch! Today they explored the TV!

Lily isn't scared of me, but isn't very interested in human interaction, she prefers to look out the window!

Not a good idea to allow them to chew on anything artificial as artificial fibres can’t be broken down in their gut.

Aww!! mine are not explorative but Biscuit has explored the fan and the lamp. I've started putting a tea towel on top of the TV to put them off perching there! I worry they may get hurt as they started clawing at the heat vent on the back. They now sit on our family photo frame (I have to regularly clean the poo off our faces!) Snowy also likes throwing a round pine cone around the window sill like a ball.

If you can get creative with some natural branches in the areas where you know they like to perch now (a bit higher than their usual spots), that might save you some cleaning effort. You can also put newspaper down below, or old fabric for less garbage (but more laundry ). That is so cute about the pinecone! None of my buds play with their vine balls unless they're hanging, but they do like to knock their solar toys off the windowsill

Thanks Morgan. They have a window perch that they enjoy. I've ordered another one so that they have more places to perch. Snowy usually only lands on me, but has started perching on my husband's hand now too! Lily still isn't very interested unless I have millet, but she's happy just looking out the window. Here is a pic of them both on their window perch.

That looks nice! How did you get your budgies not to fly into the window?

Thanks, they bumped into it once and then just realised that it was like a wall. We couldn't really cover the window, because the curtain rail is quite set away from the wall, so they just would go behind the curtain. But luckily they quickly realised not to fly into the glass.
