Ok "Carrot Top Club", I've jumped in with my attempt. I picked up these carrots at the grocery store yesterday. I selected three to give it a try and put them in water last night. Anxiously waiting to see if they'll grow! blue48 what do you have yours growing in - it looks like soupy soil?

I started them off in water tweetiepiesmom then when I could see they were shooting I transferred them to very wet compost. I was able to see within a few days whether they had taken but some took longer than others so don't be disheartened. Good luck. Sending positive carrot vibes your way Loving your many coloured carrots

Will a peeled carrot still grow? I am very curious about how this turns out tweetiepiesmom ! I'm curious about this too, but as the carrot sprouts from the top, hopefully it won't make a difference. Incidentally, those I thought were dead have now sprouted so it's a 100% success rate.

I'll keep everyone posted on how my experiment turns out! Apparently people in the US are too lazy to peel the carrots. The little baby orange carrots come peeled and cleaned in small sealed plastic bags and are very popular as a grab and go snack. Those also have the ends cut off so I'm sure they wouldn't sprout.

A machine processes them into little shaved off pieces and they’re labeled as baby carrots. Lol

Its been three days and no sign of growth yet although I'm not ready to call it a failure. The yellow one and orange one still are green on the tops. The brown one was already brown on the top so maybe that one was already "dead".

This is an interesting thread. I'm willing to try this once I have the house set up.
The weather isn't plantation friendly, so skeptical but worth a try!

This is how mine are looking after 12 days. There one on the right that I accidentally knocked the top of, but it's shooting from the base again.

The ones here come with absolutely no top at all, so mine are starting right from scratch.
I might have to investigate what other carrots the supermarket has on Thursday.
