I had to give up my carrot growing experiment. Two of them were growing well and had good root systems. The third started to show signs of rot but was growing well before that. I'll start over again later this spring when I get my raised garden bed in. I'll take pictures when that happens.

Starting on growing new carrot tops. I'm still using the lazy American carrots (i.e., peeled ). My new raised garden bed is being built and I'll post a picture when its done. That bed will have veggies and herbs for my two guys and some for me.

Here are mine on day 5. The one in the middle started growing immediately, the one on the right has just started to shoot and I’m feeling too hopeful with the last one but sometimes they need a while longer. As long as it doesn’t rot, I tend to wait and see for a while. I’ve always got carrot tops going for the buds and my daughter has them for her guinea pigs too. My mung beans sprout beautifully every time but I haven’t had any success with seeds or millet from my last order from Haiths.

Here they are 4 days later and green showing on all three. My new raised garden bed is done and I think in a couple days it'll be time to plant them outside. I'll post pictures of the new landscape project for this year.

The carrot tops looked like they were big enough to transplant outside so I'm giving it a try.

The carrot tops have been doing well outside and growing. I have waited until I had enough tops that I could give them some for a few days while they decided if they like them or not. Interesting, I planted a brown carrot, a light yellow one and an orange one. The greens are all slightly different on each one. I'll try feeding it to them in a couple days.

The carrot tops have not been appealing to my boys. Mostly they have ignored them. A friend who grows a lot of fruits and vegetables told me one of the carrots was ready to be harvested. I pulled it up yesterday evening - I felt like Bugs Bunny! I think it was the brown carrot tip that I rooted but I got orange carrots. Although the bag was labelled "heirloom carrots", now I wonder how they got the colors? It smells very fragrant unlike many of the carrots in the store which don't seem to have much smell. I'll eat these and even chop up a bit to see if my guys will eat it.
