I have a question about mating and egg laying. We initially got 3 very young budgies. It was unclear what the gender they were at that time and now we find that it is a male and 2females. Now that they are bigger and never before shows interest in breeding, things have changed. For the 1st few weeks the male took interest in only the one( falconeye) , and the 3rd(talon)one looked envious because she seemed to only stare at them, and slightly follow them. So then falconeye went into a broody stage and defensive and laid an egg and because of the defensiveness and time occupied in the nest. the male(reflecto) found an interest in talon and has mated all week with this one. My question is, while the 1st female-falconeye only lay the 1egg or should she lay more eggs and will they be fertile? Im trying to figure out who I should separate the male with or if I should at all. They have each there own bird house that they have long befor mating, made there home. And they have space otherwise as well. Falconeye seems to be jealous everytime she comes out for food and sees the other 2together, the Male also seems to miss her but she won't give him enough time with him to mount her again, almost as to say, "go back to your mistress " "I want you but you made your choice"

Big mistake having nest boxes in the cage even if you only had one hen. Are you actually trying to have a breeding pair, or not? If you don’t want them to breed, take out the nest boxes and anything else that the hens may have made into a comfortable cosy corner. Change everything around in the cage - perches, toys, even the feeders. If you do wish to have a breeding pair, the pair need to be in their own cage with their own nest box which means that you are going to have one hen on her own. How old are these birds, and how big is the cage they are all in?
