I'm sprouting millet as well. I started a few days ago but no sprouting, so I placed it outside and put lots of water, it rained last night and this is what I got this morning! So pleased with the growth.

Love your choices samwiseg. All insect friendly I see. The bees in my garden seem to love the tiny weeny flowers more than the bigger ones, so your choice of thyme is a good one. They seem to like my rosemary flowers and the oregano flowers too, all small ones. Love the picture of your garden too.

It's called Venal Poovalli, and you don't need to look after it. They build nests here and gave me a present of a lovely honeycomb full of golden honey. Here's a picture of the plant.

Here (in S.E. Kent at least) have got some really bad, cold, snowy weather forecast for the end of the month, so we must be careful as to what we plant out right now. I have ordered some plants on-line which won't be arriving until the end of March, and April. Got three that have arrived already but they will have to stay in their pots so I can put them in the shed when the bad weather comes. With the few sunny days we've had, it really inspires me to do stuff in the garden! I have also ordered two metal planters and a beautiful watering can, all to be planted up when the time comes. Anyone else bought any plants, planning for Spring, or anything new? I’ve currently got Lavatera and Mimulus seeds in plug trays on the kitchen windowsill. They’ve all germinated well but I loathe pricking out and planting on of the teeny seedlings. The rest can be sown directly outside. I grow all sorts but mainly for food for the animal members of thr family. I have tortoises and so grow a lot of their food, which means I grow certain wildflowers and a lot of weeds! I have a dedicated weed patch. 😂 We have a nice decking area and I’m trying to train honeysuckle, clematis, Virginia creeper and Jasmine to climb the pergola so hope they soon start going again, and my hubby and youngest made a corner arbour for me as I’m not a huge fan of sitting in the baking sun anymore, so it’s a lovely spot to sit with my book and yet still join in with their barbecue and chat to whoever’s in the hammock. I must say I’m looking forward to the blossom coming on the trees now.

A lovely part of the country ariella. I have had many holidays in Cornwall, lived for a time in Devon, and lived and worked in Dorset. Would have retired down that way, but it was not to be!

There are some lovely parts and the climate isn’t bad, yet bizarrely, my dream location would be the Highlands of Scotland. I don’t tend to go out much but we’re fortunate to have beaches or moorland in under an hour’s drive. I live in a rural town and love it here more than the seaside town we moved from.

The before and after photos of my decking area. We inherited an enormous amount of bamboo, which looked tropical in the summer, but the reality was it was full of bugs, dropped leaves constantly, made an awful slippery mess in the winter and made it quite gloomy. My husband’s face when I announced the whole lot was to be dug out and I wanted him to build a little pergola with a hammock under! He did a marvellous job! It was back-breaking and the bamboo had invaded under the fence and was popping up between the decking. It was a two year process and he also replaced some of the decking but it was worth it. The roof of the arbour he built me can be seen in the far right corner, which is my little nook in the summer. This area is tucked behind our garage and is completely private, only seen from our own windows and not by neighbours. I can’t wait until all the pergola has creeper vine/clematis and honeysuckle covering it. I’m hoping they start to green up again now spring is here.

Thanks mona. I’m hoping so. I know it’ll take a few years for them to really take hold but it gives me something to look forward to.
