I was wondering if any of you wonderful ladies and gentlemen have feed your budgies organic baby food instead of fresh fruits and vegetables? If how much would you feed 2 budgies? And give them organic apple sauce the other day and they loved it the pieces of fruits and vegetables I do cut up don't get eaten so I was hoping baby food would be my next go too. Thanks for your help

I have tried to feed my two guys organic baby food, particularly sweet potatoes. I read the labels carefully and pick food without added sugar, just the food. My guys don't like anything "wet and mushy". Recently I've had to change their diet and get them off seeds because Tweetie Pie had a yeast infection and kept vomiting seeds. Now that they are on the new diet, I may try organic pure baby foods again.

I only give them one and a half to two tablespoons of the store-bought seed mix but when it comes to the fruit and vegetables and I'm not sure how much to give them.

I gave them a heaping teaspoon and I put it in a shallow dish along with other food. My vet told me that was a good amount. She said it needs to be enough that they can't just ignore it and putting it in the dish along with other food let's them know it is food. One of my guys is very timid and skittish so that worked for him. It still took about 4 days before he'd try it.

My girl Juliet eats pretty much anything my Boy Romeo will only eat the mix from the store but Juliet when she eats fresh fruits and vegetables or applesauce or whatever she feeds him. Which in my opinion is kind of cute.

I suggest pulling back on fruit and relying more on vegetables. The sugar content of fruit can cause problems.

The rest of the time I'm making salads for them. Today's salad was baby carrot grated, small piece of iceberg lettuce small piece of romaine lettuce.

Dark green lettuce leaves are okay, but not the inner leaves. They have very little nutritional value and consist mostly of water, which can come through as watery poops. Leafy Asian greens such as chow sum, bok choy, pak choy etc are all good, sweet corn is usually a favourite, and snow peas. Often getting them eating the slightly sweeter tasting veg such as the corn, snow peas etc will get them started and from there they are happier to move on to the other veg.
Organic baby food is a good food for birds who have been injured or ill and have trouble feeding themselves.

I totally get where you're coming from – feeding budgies can be a puzzle sometimes! I've tried organic baby food with my feathered buddies, and it's been a hit. Start slow, like a teaspoon or so for each budgie, and see how they take to it. It's like a taste test party! If they enjoyed the apple sauce, that's a great sign. Mixing things up can keep mealtime exciting. However, I like the food from the UK; I have it delivered by UK stores online delivery. I think it's healthier.
