They settled in so quickly it’s incredible. They’re eating happily, have been pecking at their iodine and cuttlefish and chattering away. I was thrilled when the yellow-faced grey came over to my hand and has already had a lovely chest rub, eventually relaxing so much his eyes started closing...I didn’t want to stop but had to when I started to get cramp. They’re making excellent eye contact and talking back at me as well as interacting with each other. Jasper can hear them and been a little quieter than normal so has had lots of fuss too. She’s having a big moult at the moment so the next few weeks of quarantine will give her time to look beautiful so she looks her best when they get their first sight of each other.
So, from left to right we have Otis, Ivo and Henry. Otis sounds such a chilled name and that suits him so well. Ivo is a really old name, with Celtic and High old German origins I believe, but was very popular during the medieval era (I’m a history nerd) and is related to yew - not that he’ll be getting a yew perch in his Hamberley Hotel when he moves in of course. Finally, Henry is such a strong name and I think my Henry has a strong and noble face. It also means ‘ruler of the house’...so we’ll see.

Loving the names! The benefit to getting budgies from a good breeder is that they've been handled and are not afraid of people as you've discovered with these three. Congratulations with your new family members!

Wonderful! They sound perfect. Lovely names too. I'm impressed you have chosen so fast. It takes us ages and ages to agree on names 🤣
Looking forward to meeting the other two as well. When do they arrive?

When do they arrive? Oh, names are my speciality!! 😂 All my four children had their names picked out before they were even conceived. I didn’t find out their genders either so I had names for girls and boys ready each time. Now three are adults and the youngest is a teen but I still love choosing names. The other two arrive on Thursday. They’ll be quarantining in the lounge, today’s three are in my study and Jasper is in the dining room, which is where the Hamberley will be, so a home full of budgie’s chatter.

Congratulations with your new family members! So true, tweetiepiesmom. I was so disappointed when the breeder I used before had to pack up and sell everything due to ill health. It’s so hard to find many breeders at the moment and has always involved travelling, but suddenly one popped up five minutes door to door. It was good to see his set up and watching the way he handled the birds was good. I even went and looked out at his doves and quail and he was very easy to chat openly with. He didn’t pretend to know it all but he has a real interest in doing things well. We have a half hour drive on Thursday to the breeder. I’d contacted him when I was looking to get Jasper but he didn’t have any at the time, so I thought I’d send him a message on the off-chance last week and he has two males, the second of which is ready on Thursday. He is more experienced and had no trouble sexing the babies and their colours are more bright than Otis, Ivo and Jasper. Jasper is so full of yellow, green and turquoise, so a real contrast. I think they will all look beautiful when the time comes for them to be together.

You chose the names so fast! They are already so tame, I wish Bluey and Biscuit were like that.

I think the bird’s individual personalities play a lot into it. Today, after I’d let them out of their transport boxes and had chance to take in their new surroundings, I sat back from them and observed for a while, then started to make noises and blink. Otis immediately chirped back to me and made eye contact. Ivo and Henry went for food and started eating very quickly then joined Otis and started to chat also. I quietly sat and talked them through all the funny noises they will get used to here from Jasper’s chirps, the doggy barks when anyone comes to the door, the bubble of the fish tank, the sound of the radio and my cds and terrible singing, etc. They all sat and listened and made eye contact and then all gradually talked back to me and interacted with each other too. So sweet as Otis gave Ivo a nice neck scratch and Ivo moved about to get the right spot. I just adore watching animals. I love getting to know their individual personalities. I have a passion for rehoming tortoises too and they have amazing personalities. None of them are the same. People who think they’re slow and boring haven’t got a clue! 😂 Anyway, I tend to digress... Henry and Ivo quickly followed Otis’s lead and realised I was okay and so there was no flapping when I put my hand in and just left it there for a bit, whilst doing the whole blinking and talking bit, but I didn’t expect Otis to jump over and start a conversation! I felt so chuffed to give him a lovely stroke and start a bonding process. I wouldn’t really class them as tame yet, but I love the process. I just prefer animal company to most humans. 😉😂 I’m sure Bluey and Biscuit will be fine @birdlover123. They’re still young aren’t they?

They're probably not tame because of past happenings. Bluey was ok with me but Biscuit was filled with grief after his beloved Sky was killed. Sky helped every one of my budgies become tame. If she was tame, they would be, too. Still remembering how tame they were.. Love this pic.

Thank you so much birdguhlThey are settling in beautifully and I’ve had Otis and Henry eating some apple from my hand and having little chest rubs. Ivo decided to just sit on my hand, but that’s all good to me. I’m loving their chatter. ❤️
