I know I’ve read somewhere a thread about floor coverings to catch a lot of the mess but can I find it now? Nope! 🙄
Under Jasper’s stand I have a washable door mat but I’m struggling to find anything similar to go under the Hamberley. I have found the perfect sized mat but it’s only available in the US and I can’t find it listed anywhere here, not even Amazon. So...what do you all use under your cages?
I hoover every day so I could just have nothing underneath, especially as the stand of the Hamberley is on wheels, but a mat to catch husks and general budgie mess that they fling about would be handy. Thanks

I used to use wipeable plastic place mats. Very cheap on Amazon.

Good info for me too! I vacuum under/around the cage every day which takes care of seed shells but my guys like sitting on a couple perches attached to the outside of their cage. Dried poop on the floor - ugh! Hard to clean up. Putting newspaper down is so unsightly. I'll look at plastic place mats. Thanks for asking the question ariella.

You can see them under the stool with Bailey’s cage. Can’t remember but think I got them in hobbycraft at the time

I don’t use anything under the cages, but under the perching tree I use an office chair mat, and that is Loki’s official pooping station. It is textured so that chairs on wheels don’t just roll away, and I thought it would be hard to clean but it is surprisingly easy. A Hamberley would fit on it beautifully.

I used to have plastic place mats for playdoh when my sons and daughter were children. They were so adaptable and easy to clean, thanks for the idea ffiscool. I’ll see if they do large sized ones. Hezz, I’d thought about the clear plastic chair mats and it’s a great idea. I’ll have a look online and see what I can find, thank you. This is what I have under Jasper’s cage and it protects the carpet perfectly.

My guys tend to poop on the floor just under their cages, I am just forever cleaning up the poop, so that Eve doesn't stand in it.
Luckily I have lino and not a carpet!

Marianne Marlow, at least they stick to one main place to make it a little easier for you. I can well imagine how often you’re cleaning up so Eve doesn’t squish it between her toes. I Hoover a lot anyway because one of our dogs is a pug and she sheds like you wouldn’t believe! She also eats anything the buds chuck out. She thought she was really clever when she discovered a leaf of spinach but soon spat it out when she tasted it.

I have 3 cages, but Eve can only get to the floor under one of them as the others are blocked off, I try not to let her too close to the budgies. Occasionally, Blithe or George land on the floor (they're around 7-8 years old now and not as good at staying in the air) and I am over like a shot to help them up. She offers her hand to them but they are scared of her (wisely!) Your pug sounds a lot like Eve. She tried to eat a bit of basil that the buds threw out but also spat it out!! It’s nice she’ll grow up being used to budgies flying around her but I’m sure you’ll be glad when she’s just a tad older and will know better what and what not to touch. Pugs are notorious for eating anything but we have found she won’t eat raw carrot. She loves it cooked, but when my other dog waits patiently beside me when I’m chopping veg, she still wants it but it gets spat out every time. She was a rescue pug and joined our family almost three years ago. The change in her is incredible as she came to us having never been housebroken, lived mainly in the garden with 3 other dogs, had never walked on a lead, never had a bath, never had her nails clipped and hadn’t ever had a vaccination. She lives the life of Riley now but neither dog is allowed in the room with me when the buds are free-flying. They take zero notice of the cages when the buds are in them but I’d never run the risk. Anyway, I like time for just me and the buds. Blithe and George sound very doted on. I’d love to see a photo of all your budgies. Which one is in your profile photo?

The one in my profile photo is Hector. He passed a few years back at almost 11. He was my little friend.
I'll try and do a post of my budgies later on and tag you in it.

Aww, he’s lovely. Hector is a good name. Reminds me of my favourite film - Troy - when Achilles is calling for Hector to come and face him in a one-to-one fight. Such a moving scene. Thanks for doing a post. I’d love to see them all.

We cover strategic bits of carpet with plastic sheets, though we don't get droppings under the cage, only occasionally halfway up the bed instead... We'll get lino if we get our own place!
